Re: Hammer valve-->Piston

Nice lathe. 8-)

Porta power gets my vote...oil is easier to clean up than grease. Testing a pcp reservoir.

Re: Source for Thin wall 1.5" pipe

Could check with Aircraft Spruce and Specialty for tubing....overkill for the application, but available in a pretty wide variety of diameters and wall sizes and they'll do small quantities.

Re: barrel thoughts

Ever considered ECM rifling? I believe the FGC-9 and it's ecm'd barrel have been shared here before; https://youtu.be/AyPJ2br5NFQ Smith and Wesson has been using ECM to rifle barrels for a while now....a quick look at the commercial version of the process; https://youtu.be/CylcaXYNzcg Looks a bit ov...

Nice work Jack. :)

As far as useful skills go, threading is right up there with grinding tools...opens options and doors to all kinds of new projects!

Re: stainless steel tube burst pressure

Different strokes I guess. Moonbog; The theoretical fail point and "weakest link" are reasonably easy to calculate before construction. I do hydrotest "unique" assemblies, and in some cases will go beyond 5/3 MWP, but do not test to destruction, never saw the need on something where I am the one "us...

It was meant as something of a joke...I do not understand Romanian.

Good luck, play safe. :)

Re: stainless steel tube burst pressure

Your English is MUCH better than my Romanian, so no worries...you express yourself just fine. There is not much to be gained by examining the welded ends, far too many variables. Are you familiar with F=P*A ? The weld holding your end plug is holding approximately 1719lbs of force (781Kg) at 1000Psi...

Re: stainless steel tube burst pressure

I realize that there may be some issues obtaining "preferred" materials in some countries. Can you show and give details of "how" you plugged each end of the tube?

Re: stainless steel tube burst pressure

Mr Foo hit on the major point...the ends are where most failures occur first, and it can be pretty dramatic...even deadly. Wasn't too long ago that a fellow was working on a modified Benjamin Discovery and had the valve blow nearly through his thigh...barely missing the femoral artery. Another fello...

The former of course lol.

Was an enjoyable show in it's day..chock full of "manly manliness", "moar power" and tool girl hotness...Debby Dunning had it going on, Pam Anderson wasn't too bad either. ;)

Re: Waste oil burner

It IS kind of fun...playing with fire and molten metal is somewhat...primal. 8-) Would do a "Tim Taylor" quote here, but you're all likely too young to remember and grasp the humor lol.

Have been casting aluminum for a while now...very useful.

Re: JSR's workshop chronicles

I think the biggest issue is loosing some travel with the tail stock. It's a bit tight to adjust the cross slide gibs as well.

Digging into that link posted earlier...and taking off on tangents like MF'er lol. (Focus you fack! lol) If only you had access to a machine capable of turning cylindrical features... If only eh? The machines are (I believe) made by Weise...conversion parts may be available from there if a fel...

Re: JSR's workshop chronicles

Sweet! So... do you just butt it up to the ways to make sure it's parallel? Slap it on, eyeball it straight to the ways and get after it. If you look across one straight item at another, it's fairly easy to see relatively minor angles of "off kilter"....and I'm under no pretense that I'm holding +/...
