Can PTFE be "safely" melted?
I don't think so...

from Wikipedia:

"According to DuPont, its melting point is 327 °C"

"The pyrolysis of PTFE is detectable at 200 °C (392 °F), and it evolves several fluorocarbon gases"

Uhmm I tried polyester resin before, I won't recommend it, it shrinks too much to be useful... besides it is quite brittle so I won't use it where there is significant forces involved...

an alloy consisting of magnesium and aluminium is called magnalium. (with your explosive interests you should know, DYI, altough I doubt its functionality in HE's) I'm not sure about the Silicon yet... I think it has something to do with the hardness and strength. this pipe can consist of anything ...

I was going to try something from bronze once, but gave up when I kept getting bubbles in the mold somehow. I think the wax I used was soaking in and not evaporating during the baking phase. your problem was probably caused by incorrect burn-out... either not long enough or not hot enough... 725°C ...

Make the main body of the ring, then turn any grooves/markings, then rub wax into them, and then cast a different (but compatible) metal into the smaller waxed details? Perhaps engrave deeply under the details to give some security to the additional metal...

I have a device that you put a normal power drill in which turns it into a drill press, I'm sure you've got several brain cells so you should be able to put something together. / my dad actually built one of those things, my opinion is that it will destroy the bearings in the drill very quickly sin...
