Re: Access to lathe...what should I make?

Ooh, a hammer valve and stirrup pump would be fun too... but I have so many projects :? Here's some CAD drawings of the 1/2" copper gun I was thinking about, 24" barrel, 3/4" x 45" chamber that can be reduced to 18" if I don't want to pump as much. At 800psi, GGDT predicts ~800fps with a 1/2" ball b...

Access to lathe...what should I make?

I haven't been on spudfiles or worked on any my cannons in over a year, but I have access to a small and underpowered Unimat 3 lathe for the next 3 weeks, and figured I should make a new cannon. First time using a lathe yesterday I tried turning some scrap material, the motor kept stalling on 1-1/2"...

Though I do not own it, I have heard only good things about the Sieg SC2 7x12 . In case you didn't know, Sieg makes the majority of mini lathes in the US, rebranded by many distributors, including LittleMachineShop and Harbor Freight. Especially awesome in the SC2 (but not the C2 from HF!) is the br...

Thanks guys, I found some 2" Nylon rod lying around that I'll machine into a cup. Unfortunately I don't have a Harbor Freight nearby. Would Lowes or Home Depot carry 2" sanding drums? And what are they made out of?

Piston Help

I have a 2" golfball cannon, pretty standard PVC barrel sealer. I just broke my first piston which was a 1 1/4" PVC coupler, with a 3/8" thick epoxy plug on one end, drilled through for the bolt. I am looking into building a new piston, and have a few ideas. UHMWPE looks like the best material, for ...

Really? Im pretty sure it was the overcurrent protection. There are three pins on the side, one on top and two on bottom. The top one had a black wire that went through the black cylinder and then to the plug, the bottom two pins had a black plastic box covering them with some electronics in it that...

Hey guys, I need a little help with my compressor. I pulled it out of an old dehumidifier (probably from the 90s), hooked it up, it ran for about 5 seconds, clicked, and then shut off. About 15 seconds later, a tiny click comes out of a little black cylinder on the side, maybe 20mm diameter and 10mm...

You can use much thinner wire than extension cords for this, at least 20 gauge if not thinner. Also, sprinkler valves are made for 24V, so I would go for at least 2 9V batteries in series, to get 18V and make it open faster. Or you could connect 16 AAs or AAAs in series to get the full 24V.

My dad has one of these, it jump starts cars, charges cell phones, has a flashlight, and most importantly, has a pretty small compressor that goes to about 100 psi, with rechargeable battery included. http://www.safety-devices.com/images/jump-starters/psx/psx-jump-starter-245x245.jpg I wouldn't reco...

Pneumatic Motors?

Does anyone have information on pneumatic motors? You know, put air in, shaft spins, like is used in dentist drills and pneumatic wrenches? Where can I buy them, and if I can't, how can I build one? Ebay has a few beat up ones covered in grease and rust from the 1800s, Mcmaster has a few giant ones,...

Hey guys, I want to get a QE-04 QEV from ebay, but those damn BSP threads are difficult to work with. They are BSPT (tapered), right? Not straight threads? I have looked for adapters to NPT at hardware stores, and Mcmaster has a few but they are like $15. Can I just use PVC at low pressures, because...
