Re: I Found A Cave!

Next time you throw rocks into a dark hole be sure and duck! Something might throw them back! Reminds me of a joke: Two guys are out walking in the woods when they come across a large hole. Wanting to see how deep it is they find a rock and throw it in, but it doesn't make a sound. They f...

Re: 2.5" heavy round

Its a bit skinnier than a typical soda or beer can, although I guess beer comes in a wider variety of can sizes so its hard to say exactly. Either way, it fits perfectly in a 2.5" pipe.

2.5" heavy round

I just discovered the perfect ammo for a 2.5" sch 40 barrel: Redd's Wicked Apple cans. The fit is tight enough to not need wadding but not so tight they would get stuck without grease. My plan was to make something similar to those Nerf footballs with fins. The can will be filled with concrete or pl...

Re: Laser tripwire circuit

Update: I'm back at school now so it looks like I'll have to put the project on hold. However now I have access to Multisim and I tweaked the design a bit. It looks like I'll be able to get a reasonable amount of power from this new setup. Note the potentiometer is a stand-in for the photoresistor a...

Re: Laser tripwire circuit

Ugh don't even get me started on Arduinos. I've tried more than once to understand how they work and how to use them, but I just can't manage to wrap my head around programming in general. Even if I could it wouldn't be worth it to me to get one and relegate it to a single simple project like this. ...

Re: Laser tripwire circuit

I can't really get any more voltage for the circuit since I can only fit so many batteries in the project box I'm using. I also want to keep the LED so I can tell when the laser is aimed correctly when I'm setting it up (turn the receiver on, adjust the laser until the LED turns off, and then arm th...

Laser tripwire circuit

Right now I'm in the process of building a laser tripwire. I'm using KipKay's portable laser tripwire design (circuit diagram attached) with a few modifications. I replaced the buzzer with a positive and negative lead. I'm also using a 2N3904 transistor instead of a BT169 thyristor, so the circuit i...

The supersonic ping pong gun

Found this article on Gizmag (good website) and immediately thought of Spudfiles. Judging from the description in the article and what I've seen on this site, this doesn't seem impossible to build at home. http://www.gizmag.com/how-to-build-a-supersonic-ping-pong-gun/26082/?utm_source=Gizmag+Subscri...

I'm guessing I should probably also put a shutoff valve on the line to keep the engine from flooding when its not running. It does have an electric starter so its not like I'll have to yank a pull cord a bunch of times go get the gas flowing.

Small engine fuel system

So I got a small engine for a motorboard project I'm working on. Its one of those 2-strokes with two fuel line hookups on the carburetor, one main fuel hookup and one return hookup for the primer. The engine didn't come with a gas tank, and all the tanks I can find with two fuel lines are either too...

Get an old vacuum cleaner and take the turbine out of that. Chances are the turbine it attached right outside the motor, so just use wire cutters and a hacksaw to chew away all the winding on the shaft. I did this with a shop vac once and got a halfway decent turbine out of it. You can even keep the...

I'm willing to bet it has to do with the gas sitting for so long. If the problem only occurs when starting up after a long time with no use, its probably because of certain gas additives evaporating like Technician1002 said. An engine that old probably wasn't designed to use the 10% ethanol gas you ...

How's this? The label says 10953BS 26866S if you can't make it out. The transmitter model number is GT90-1 and the receiver model number is GR390-12.

Garage door opener help

So recently I got hold of the circuits from an old Genie garage door opener. I wanted to use them as a remote detonator for airsoft satchel charges, but I know next to nothing about circuits. I'm guessing that two of the wires coming from the receiver get connected to a power source and the third gi...

If the superglue winds up failing I'll try JB Weld. RIght now it seems to be working so I'll just leave it. I had a similar idea for the cartridges, but I would just drill out the hole already in them, pour a little bit of solder into the hole to weigh down the tip, and then putting a screw with som...
