Re: fl(air) gun - mechanically locked pneumatic cartridge for a 26.5mm flare gun

Really nice work, I initially thought I was looking at an actual pneumatic flare gun by its original design, and thought that is cool. I really shouldn't have considering it was made by you haha. I love the conversion idea, and effort in keeping it looking stock. Nice valve design too, I cant say I ...

Re: Is there a more active website than this?

Not sure if the world also just got a bit more PC or woke or whatever they call it now. Given all of the bad gun related news, wielding plumbing fittings for unintended purposes can label you as a bit of a, character. I know I would be uncomfortable talking about it at work, but all the CNC machines...

Re: Ideas for biodegradable cannon-balls

I have used clay, it needs to be dried for several days, the larger, the longer it will require. If not dry, it tends to splatter and leave the barrel as a cloud. Clay will tend to shrink quite a bit, and depending on the clay, shrinkage is not consistent, so it can be a pain getting the size right....

Not that I have much to add to this, but It's threads like this that make me a fan of spudfiles.

Re: Fridge compressor dead?

Stay safe friend. Mains voltage isnt something to play around with, or trial and error and i just want to let you there are potentially serious dangers here, its the second video in your first post that has me concerned. However you are doing the right thing by researching and asking others and have...

Re: Homebuilt PCP pump

Looking good! My one concern would be the threaded rod rubbing against the endcap that will wear over time. Yea that will definitely happen. I could fill in the threads with epoxy to minimise the wear, but I'm happy to treat it as a sacrificial part as its easy to make another. It should last a rea...

Homebuilt PCP pump

So, I moved to a bigger property, which has many places to shoot that are no where near a power point for the old fridge compressor. I don't fancy lugging a generator around or dealing with high pressure air, so I made a hand pump. The pump is a 20mm copper pipe brazed into a 20mm fitting with a cus...

Damn that's exciting, looking forward to seeing some epoxy marvels!

Mortgage life also happened here recently. Made sure to get a full 10 acres with a nice big hill backdrop. Or should I say backstop?

Re: French pneumatic mortars in WWI

I found this great page Nice find, I had looked at this thread a few months back and wondered how these actually worked. Topically, I decided a while ago now that the game of pétanque could be vastly improved with the addition of a mortar and a bigger field of play. Hopefully in the next few months...

Anyone here messed with drones? A few years ago I built a quad with the intent of long flight times and the ability to carry a camera, even autonomous flight on preset 'missions'. Can't really say it was a success, could never really get rid of vibrations affecting the image. Maybe if i spent a bit...

Re: Slow Motion Combustion Video

Yea i forgot to mention that the effects here are maybe the last few things to optimise to get the best performance. These are still things that you might want to consider even after you have picked the low, and big fruits, of additional spark gaps. Id still be interested in seeing a simulation of s...

Re: Slow Motion Combustion Video

My take away from this is you ideally want to minimise the surface area to volume, ie as spherical as possible, and ignite the mix from the centre ish. This gives you the greatest flame front area, which i take to mean the greatest rate of combustion and therefore pressure. I say ish, because maybe ...

Slow Motion Combustion Video

Came across this on youtube.

Several things here, that if not of general interest, could be useful when designing combustion cannons.
Like the wall cooling effect.

Re: Possible AC Scroll Compressor Conversion?

If you find the spec sheet for the compressor it will say if it needs a start or a run capacitor. If running for a long time on a wrong sized run capacitor I think you run the risk of burning out the windings.
