Re: Anyone going to try carbide this year?
The big one failed, about july 1 i took it over to my buddies and shot it. FIrst some used a cardboard blast disk loud as hell. Second one we shot a small air filled ball with little blinking lights in it went about 200 yards into a field. Third shot we put a paper cup down inside with a 3" tennis b...

Anyone going to try carbide this year?
I really enjoyed the thunder mug design and i think i shot it the most last year being so simple and portable but still has a decent bang for what it is i went with 3 this year. 2 for each hand and one with a foot trigger! Ive shot one of the new ones 5 times now me and my nephew shot a few today go...

Re: Goin BIG!
Just wanted to stop in and say im still alive, no mishaps. I havnt shot mine much since the forth of july, the KC Royals won a few games in october and i had to celebrate with a few blasts each game they won. New Years is next, time to dust off the cannons and crack open the carbide for another roun...

Re: A few questions..
I started little, a friend of mine had one of those older pot metal cannons you can buy from amazon called big bang cannons. I just inspected its size and the amount of carbide used and built something similar. I then searched online and found all different sizes youtube is where i found the best pl...

Re: Goin BIG!
How do they fit after you sleeve the 3" and use the regular cheap tennis balls? using the 3" and the kids low bounce balls they fit nice and loose but they are about $1. a ball and after a few really pounding shots it starts to burn the fiber up on the tennis balls

Re: Goin BIG!
Just search google, i got some from amazon called "bangsite" comes in a neat little toothpaste like tube great for storage but its a bit pricey IMO i then found a site called cheapcarbide.com and i got it by the pound. Re: Picture of all my toys
Well i'm still here, no mishaps or problems everything went very well. I didn't shoot them all but there are a few that i think are better designed and work better then others. I figured out the issue with the 6" one, after testing about 10-15 times on the 3rd i really was let down and i almost left...

Re: Picture of all my toys
What a dud I cant find the right mixture, the others came pretty quick but i cant get this one down for some reason. I tried the 2/3 tsp because i figure its about the same size as the popular mechanics version but it wasnt loud. So far the 4"-3" are still the best Going to try it a few more times t...

Re: Picture of all my toys
I have copious amounts of 3 inch schedule 40. Maybe a 4" Tee reduced to 3" for the barrel. Figure I could use the 3" tennis balls I use in my larger pneumatic if I wanted to launch something. Thanks by the way, for the heads up on the 3-inch tennis balls. I didn't even know they existed until I saw...

Re: Calcium carbide is so dangerous!
The thunder mug has the best crack shooting a tennis ball or pushing a small mcdonals water cup down the muzzle. The cup gives a similar bang as the tennis ball but it doesnt fly as far away. Whats shocking is i push the paper mcdonals cup closed in down into the cannon and ive shot it out about 15 ...

Re: Calcium carbide is so dangerous!
I didnt either at first, those were the few shots over the sink. After i knew the cup wasnt going to blow up i then moved infront of the camera.wyz2285 wrote:Didn't feel very safe while watching these videos... Plus you make me want to go to McDonald's

Re: Calcium carbide is so dangerous!
My point is that is styrofoam! i tried and tried and i couldnt even crack it. It is pretty hard to get a chamber to rupture when it has that big an opening and nothing significant retarding gas flow. The press on cup lid probably pops off at a fraction of one PSI above atmospheric. In other words, ...

Re: Calcium carbide is so dangerous!
So much for that, i taped the bottom back on and cut a smaller hole, didnt help much then put the carboard over top and then it cracked. I tired some hairspray in it also to see if i could tell any difference i swear the hairspray just seems slightly less energetic. I need a new cup now my fun is ov...

Re: Calcium carbide is so dangerous!
A 50/50 mix with oxygen is quite dangerous. a 20/80 mix with air burns slower with less energy. You won't get the same bang with air as you will with pure Oxygen. Not sure if you will get detonation with an air mix as you can with 50/50 Oxygen mix. New design more testing https://www.youtube.com/wa...

Its pretty cheap stuff.Ragnarok wrote:To be technical, "Styrofoam" is a trademark for closed-cell extruded polystyrene foam held by The Dow Chemical Company.
It is not the same stuff as the expanded polystyrene foam (expanded this time, not extruded) that people often refer to as Styrofoam.
