Diaphragm valves VS piston valves is an interesting debate. The diaphragm valve (such as the dust collector valve) is clearly superior in opening time (it is, after all, just a very lightweight piston). However, often times diaphragm valves do not allow for full flow. I personally own 5 or so of the...

Thanks for all the responses. I realize that there may be an easy way to begin testing this subject. If the piston is constructed from threaded rod, the length of the piston can be changed by moving the location of the sealing face. By moving the sealing face forward or backward, it would have the e...

Piston Travel Distance in a Tee Valve

I've been thinking about piston travel distance lately. The old rule is that the piston should travel back one quarter of the diameter of the exit for maximum efficiency. This can be easily derived; allow r=radius of the exit port, d=diameter of the exit port, L=piston travel: Flow through area arou...

Thanks for the responses everyone. With regards to using it as a 2x hybrid, I am surprisingly not inclined...mostly due to the larger diameter pipe, the (thinner) SCH 40 thickness, and to the electrodes being drilled through the pipe alone. I'm a scardy-cat when pressurizing my pneumatic (which has ...

6.3L Wogglecannon

It’s been quite a while since I posted anything (seems like around two years since I posted any type of cannon). Though I’ve made the occasional thing here and there, college applications and subsequently being at college have consumed most of my free time. I finally found some time to make somethin...

Diaphragm valves often have less power than piston valves. While the opening speed is superior due to the low weight of the diaphragm, the flow is restricted.

I'm pretty sure "furniture grade" is thinwall and not pressure rated. I've seen PVC furniture before, and I don't think I would trust the fittings with pressure.

I would have to disagree with Technician1002 and those who support him. I bought a 7x12 Cummins mini-lathe a while back, and I have had no complaints. I have built several piston valves and several other projects, and accuracy has not been a problem. Of course, the larger lathes will probably have m...

I talked to you in the PM's, but not here, so here goes...nice valve  Your building style is very similar to mine...make something decent, realize there is a small cosmetic problem, and build another one to fix the problem...I've currently gone through 4 of these types of valves for one reason...

Just wondering, whatever happened to BCARMS anyways? I understand that people were having significant troubles regarding long delays in their orders.
