Re: How to make an Air cannon sound cooler/louder?

Maybe a metal cone/cylinder at the end of the barrel will make the most noise. Like when you hit cymbals on a drum set.

Re: How to make an Air cannon sound cooler/louder?

In my experience it amplifies the noise significantly for the shooter too. Yes, I've done that by mistake while making a dummy silencer for looks, and made a loudifier by mistake, a piece of 1" PVC pipe works really good. Does just a cylinder at the end work? If you could post an image of your setu...

Re: Basic pneumatic cannon

It looks like the air flows into the handle when firing. That area basically needs to fill up with air before it can produce a force down the barrel. Might be effecting performance.

*edit* nevermind, saw the valve is in front of it.

Re: Whats best valving for pneumatics

I have done test with sprinkler valves, duel sprinkler vales, triple sprinkler vales, piston vales, and ball valves. I have surprisingly found that a basic ball valve performs the same if not better than the triple sprinkler valve system. I built a 2'' piston valve but never really recorded anything...

Re: How to make an Air cannon sound cooler/louder?

I'll try it next time.

The picture looks like theres more things going on, such as holes in the cone, and it looks like its disconnected from the barrel? While also being in a cylinder.

Re: How to make an Air cannon sound cooler/louder?

Adding a cone shape to the muzzle works very well in airsoft: It looks like a cone shape directs the sound instead of amplify it. I would like a solution that amplifies the sound for all parties, including the ones behind it firing the gun. Maybe a microphone at the end of the barrel but thats kind...

How to make an Air cannon sound cooler/louder?

Any tricks on how to make your air gun sound cooler or louder than it normally should? My only guess is to shorten the barrel so the air is not getting muffled as much from the inside of the barrel, but I need a long barrel for my needs. Higher PSI will make it sound louder, although I would like a ...

Re: Pressure rating for Coaxial cannons

What do you mean by buying an air tank and punching holes through it? Making a PVC cannon this large makes me especially uncomfortable. I'm building it out of steel pipe. No more pvc. Yes I meant punch holes through an air tank like this one to fit the barrel through https://www.summitracing.com/pa...

Re: Pressure rating for Coaxial cannons

Thanks for the info. I'm going to upgrade to steel pipe anyway for my later builds. I'm mostly concerned about raising the outer diameter of the chamber since the chamber diameter has to be larger than the barrel for it to fit around it, and the larger the pipe diameter the lower the PSI rating. I a...

Re: Pressure rating for Coaxial cannons

If the barrel were to shatter at least it would be in an enclosed space. Could the shrapnel penetrate the chamber and go flying out? Dunno.

Pressure rating for Coaxial cannons

I was contemplating about making a coaxial type air cannon design but I had a thought about the pressure rating. We know that certain pipes has been factory tested to withstand a certain amount of pressure inside of it. But what if that pressure is being applied outside of it? That's basically what'...

"Outer Diam" is the inner diameter of your chamber tube.

"Inner Diam" is the outer diameter of your barrel for a coaxial cannon.

If your design is not a coaxial, the "Inner Diam" should be zero.
Man how were we supposed to know that. Anyway I'm starting to get realistic numbers now. Thanks!

Issues with the GGDT software

I am trying to use the GGDT software but im having issues. I keep getting an error stating that the projectile never cleared the barrel, but I believe I put in reasonable numbers. The odd thing is if I increase the chamber inner diameter, it decreases the volume. If I increase the outer diameter, it...

Release a certain amount of air pressure from tank?

I am thinking about some concept designs for an air cannon . I would like to build a cannon that can rapidly fire and can control how much pressure its releasing. Say I want to fire the gun 7 times at 100 psi before having to refill the air tank. I presume I would fill an air tank with 700 psi and r...

Tilted valve allowing greater flow?

I stumbled across this valve while going through MyAirCannons.com videos. Its a tilted valve that's supposed to allow better air flow. Manufacturers video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yxZQOc20WY This video at 0:30 and 3:15 the MyAirCannons guy explains how it performs alot better. https://www.yo...
