Re: Using Burnt Latke's fuel tool

Correct, meter pipe volume needs to be approximate, with the fine tuning of moles of propane to moles of oxygen being done by adjusting pressure in the pipe. If you find that you can't get the right load, you can change the length of a nipple on the pipe to add/remove 1/2"+, much as Latke said here....

Re: Using Burnt Latke's fuel tool

I think I came to the same conclusion about 10 years ago... I assume you found this... it gives a good clue, but I still wasn't sure... I think he means volume of the propane (meter) is 4% and the volume of the air (chamber) is 100% The pressure regulator proved to be the key element. A mid range ba...

Re: Multiple ignition points?

http://www.burntlatke.com/strip.html He is right about the veracity of the data, since his standard deviation from 10 shots is bonkers high due to the russet factor, but his data does bear out what we all know instinctively to be true, more sparks (well distributed down the chamber) = more higher i...

The fan should be placed on the other side of the spark gap or it is at large risk of being blown apart.
Fan at the back is problematic? Mine is mounted about 2 inches from the rear, never had a problem or had to replace it...

Re: Propane failing to ignite reliably.

Easiest way to understand C:B ratio is that if the barrel is too short, the projectile is still accelerating when it leaves the barrel (sub optimal), and if the barrel is too long, NEGATIVE pressure behind the projectile will slow it down before it exits the barrel ( if your barrel is very long, and...

Is your C:B ratio in terms of the volume of each?

Re: Propane failing to ignite reliably.

I have to agree, using oxygen is a dangerous additive. If you are adding more than smidge, you're in danger if you finally get the mixture right and it ignites properly. Propane will only ignite between 2.5% and 9.2% by volume with air at sea level, so you may well be under fueling it. Get it all so...

Re: New member... my baby, Big Red

My apologies, I was being a little facetious, I would never consider detonating such a fuel/oxidizer mix. I thought the "miniature vacuum pump" was my obvious tell... I'll be sticking to a high nitrogen content with this device thank you very much. ;) And I'll cancel the snark until you get to know ...

Re: New member... my baby, Big Red

I have not had any problems shooting with additional oxygen. I have completed calibration using propane and mapp, but have not had enough shooting time to test with oxygen. With plain fuel air mix I have achieved about 700 joules muzzle energy (only a 5' bsrrel, so chamber/barrel ratio is high), but...

Re: New member... my baby, Big Red

"pure oxygen" and fuel? Maybe you noticed the vacuum pump hidden in the battery box that evacuates the chamber before filling it with "pure oxygen and fuel".
