Re: Is spudding dead?

I tried rifle shooting after I'd done spudding for a few years and really found it lacking a figurative "spark". I think both the personal significance of making your own cannon and the ability to send something downrange with a boom are important. Maybe living in the UK affects how one sees guns, b...

Re: Free cannons to good home

Hi Ian, It is, not sure about postage as it is rather long! Probably going to be in the region of £30-40 if I had to guess. Run it through parcelmonkey with a weight of 5kg and see what comes out. I'm in East Surrey but would be in southampton 28th May and could leave it with a friend for collection...

Free cannons to good home

It is a sad day but the cost of storage space in the south east of england is rising exponentially but my savings are not, and so I need to go lean on my belongings for a decade or so. I will be keeping my combustion cannon, but I have: A a part-built piston pneumatic: 10bar rated PVC, 50mm x 1m cha...

Re: Is spudding dead?

I think that spudding in general has seen a huge decline. I have no idea at all why that is, but it's just not really a thing any more. Maybe it's the increasing strictness of laws surrounding guns/explosives, or maybe it's a result of nerds doing practical hobbies and moving to computerised ones? I...

Looks really nice painted, nice neat construction too.

How much were those big metal fittings though?!

Re: Impromptu Ghetto Contest, 2013

Damn I totally forgot about this.

Jammed a scharder valvle and a piezo igniter into a pringles can. It therefore links to my fuel meter (cheating? :P) and ignites pretty reliably.

A wrap of tape holding the lid more securely makes it give a nice bang when it goes. No barrel planned.

Re: Bitcoin and cryptocurrency

Well they just absolutely bottomed out so if you wanted to get some then now would be a good time to do so!

It's the bubble popping after the chinese government said they could only be traded as a commodity, not as a currency and it's popped bigtime.

Bitcoin and cryptocurrency

Does anyone else follow these? I've been interested in the development of it for a while now but only recently actually got some to use for sending small payments to friends while avoiding paypal. To me the concept is awesome but I am concerned that if I put anything more than a few hundred in then ...

Re: "Offtopic-posts-topic" NSFW

Anyone think it might be good to have a general discussion forum rather than just a single thread which devolves into multiple streams of consciousness without discussion, when multiple topics are raised simultaneously?

Re: Tank Pressure

The typical working pressure is about 8 bar. In the event that the tank gets hot it could reach 20 bar (50*C) so I presume they are rated to 20 bar.

A friend who works with butane aerosol cans says they are rated to 15 bar in the UK so the logic follows.

Re: Converting torch head to threaded fitting

Yeah I might tap the inside to a female thread but I don't know if there is enough material to do 1/8"

I've just found this: (How-To) Basic Propane Meter which is useful, it suggests that there is a compression fitting which will screw in... decisions.

Re: Converting torch head to threaded fitting

Does anyone know what the thread is which screws the aerator(?) onto the torch head?

I destroyed the threadlock and unscrewed the pipe but it's the same thread at both ends, neither NPT or BSP. PArallel thread with OD of 11.05mm

Re: Converting torch head to threaded fitting

You could just use a couple of right-angle barbs. As you said, the problem with the original setup is the large radius you need to get the hose bend without kinking. Replace all that hose with right angle barbs (or right angle fittings) and short straight pieces of hose. There must be some good rea...
