well, you could measure how fast it accelerated an object with a known mass. then you know how much the force its created, you calculate its lift against the force of gravity which is 9.8 m/s^2. Have you taken and higher level science classes?

So I've been looking into building a fridge compressor. I found a fridge on craigslist but I'm having a hell of a time finding a place that takes the freon. I know it's and epic no-no to just let it out and I know a bunch of you have built these. How did you guys deal with this?

looks to me that is it too far in. it needs to extend to a larger diameter than that of your bushing. If not, it won't contact to socket your inserting it into and create a seal.

You could reposition your fill valve so that it fills from behind the diaphragm. that will keep the valve closed. It is simple easy and compact, just a few new fittings

Basically you just add the fill valve where you would have added a blow gun to the sprinkler valve.

@homedepotpro: You were a factor of 4 too large calculating the cross-sectional area of the barrel, because you used the diameter, not the radius.

The 1/2" barrel could put down ~19.5 lbs of force, the 2" barrel could give 314 lbs of force.

i think it should be noted that diameter does matter. A larger diameter barrel is going to give more surface area from which the pressure can act on the projectile and there for more force. for instance a 1/2'' barrel at 100psi is going to have .5in x .5in x pi x 100lb/sq in = 78.5 lbs of force ...
