jack: you are assuming that he took a spring from a .22 that had the same ft/lb of energy as the .177 rifle he put it into. they could have been completly different rifles, but since the work was done in the 60s, it definetly wouldn't hurt to replace the spring again.

use large blocks of layered foam or several carpets hung 6" apart from each other layered IIIII like that, which will stop almost all ricochets, or at least slow them down to almost a stop

you know what would be an intresting thing to try? i know that an army-navy surplus store sells old surplus .50 BMG and .308 tungsten AP rounds, for about 3-6 bucks a pop. why not buy some of those rounds and design a sabot to fire them out of your hybrid? they would almost definetly achieve better ...

it is the length of the barell that makes the shot spread out, the notches are just because whoever cut it down used a hacksaw and is sloppy. hell, the spread on a 12" shotgun barell (12 gague) @ 70 feet is only about 13"-16" (with 00 buxkshot)

what pressure were your burst discs set to burst at? just curious because a tiny crack plus a burt disk that could hold back too much presure could equal a boom.

you beat them to death with your fists, or shank them with a pen. doubt that they will prosecute you for that, also you could use a cane, makes a good weapon if you have one with a big metal handle
