I usually use some 1/2" wooden dowel rod.

I take a 6" long piece of 1/2" pvc and slide it from the tip of the arrow back to the fins, this holds them down, then I put the 6" piece up against my barrel and slide the arrow back and the fins slide into the barrel with no problems.

This gun uses a Toro brand valve. A friend of mine wants to take it deer hunting. My next gun is going to be very similar to this one, but it will use an old wooden rifle stock- so it will be very natural aiming and shooting it.

This is another cannon I build around the same time as the BAAC, it uses an electric sprinkler valve and two push-button switches to trigger it.
