Sorry for the double post but went shopping today. The bad news is the home depot I went to didn't have any pressure rated fittings bigger than 1.5 inch. The good news is they had the 1 inch rainbird CP-100's. So I picked up two of them and a basic tap/die set. I also got 10 feet of 1 inch and ten f...

I'm interested to know if anyone has made a coax but instead of just a dump valve... used the venturi effect during filling to create a vacuum in a smaller separate chamber to help "suck" back a piston in addition to the chamber pressure.

The main reason I removed it was to look at the fitting better to be sure it was not pressure rated. The wiki page showed a bell type reducer that was rated so I didn't know what I had. I put the tape on for the same reasons Techie said and a warning I read that said "pvc does not show up on xrays"....

Wow that is awesome...I don't have machining tools but he did say he turned the 2 inch with a drill press so that may be doable.(wonders if the wife will let me buy a lathe just for spud guns) I'm not sure about what to build yet. Every time I look at the guns on here I say "I WANT THAT" to myself l...

Yeah I definitely need a better valve. I've been looking at many of the guns on the forum to see what works best in different types of designs. Also I was talking about this with some guys at work today because one of them has a welder and I asked if he would mind doing some welding if I needed. Any...

Thanks for the tips MrCrowley I'll give it another go. @ jack yeah 2.5 mil is too fast but I was getting a negative answer already so I wasn't too concerned with that part yet. I'll tweek that when I get a reasonable answer. EDIT: To my surprise decreasing the speed of the valve gave me a more reaso...

Thanks MrCrowley..I'm on the right track now. Coaxial Valve From the animation this seems to be the same concept as piston except the eq tube is a gap around the valve and the barrel is sealed by an additional(smaller diameter) piece of rubber on the face of the valve in respect to the barrel. Sorry...

I'm gonna take your ideas one at a time so I'm sure I understand. Thanks for the welcome Piston Valve Input open and exhaust closed forces the piston forward sealing the barrel and allows the chamber to charge through the equalization hole. When the chamber is charged, opening the exhaust port cause...

I look at the sprinkler valves every time I go to home depot/lowes but they only seem to carry the smaller diameter (3/4 inch or less) when I look at them. I was under the assumption that bigger is better . I guess it really depends on what you are building so I will take a closer look at my needs w...

Thanks for the nice welcome and all the great tips, especially about the DWV. I did not know this fitting was not pressure rated. I have fired this many times but only at 40 psi because the neighborhood kids all seem to come out when I take it outside. Yes I did use primer and glue, the tape was the...

Total noob needs advice on the next step.

First I'd like to say in my first post that I am astonished at the level of knowledge on the website. Very impressive. Anyways..[/asskissing] After seeing some cool videos on youtube me and my son (9 years old) decided to make our first spud gun. Just so happens the wife was looking for a new oven s...
