Re: Is spudding dead?

You should've seen the Spud tech site's front page if you think this one is outdated  I do like your idea of a new showcase weekly - and maybe I can 1 up that idea: How about a banner that refreshes every 5 seconds that shows a picture of a spud gun built on this site. clicking on the immediate...

Go to the top menu bar - and click 'Chat' on there - the link provided in the 'Chat room request' post is no longer correct

Re: Is spudding dead?

Good point Drac. My main reason for not tackling any new projects has been partially my obsession with 'bigger/better' being a requirement to any new build. VERA may not be the most technically complicated build on this sight, in fact it's very simple in operation (okay maybe it's actually very comp...

Re: Show your best spudgun pics!

Damn watching this makes me realize 3 things: 1. I am getting old 2. we haven't got a simple to use portable hybrid yet 3. mobile c. uses some tarded sounds in his vids 1. - if you were actually really old.. 3. - you would know those 'weird' sounds are taken directly from DOOM video games! lol. and...

With nearly 50,000 views between them...

I'd have to say this is my best work I can show! Hope to one day have me blasting granite cliffs to bits in the remote Colorado Wilderness (It's very fun with high powered rifles!) I hate to say it, but p...

Re: Is spudding dead?

This forum theme is awful though. What is this, a windows 7 troubleshooting forum? Wouldn't be surprised if this has discouraged some visitors from reading into the content and registering. With criticism should comes constructive suggestions if you want anything changed/different... jussssssss say...

Re: Is spudding dead?

It might be dead to us SB15 - but it's still alive - it seems to be mostly regurgitated designs of low power pneubmatics on instructables or 'take-your-pick' YouTube instructional videos. The way people get their information is rapidly changing... when we were kids - internet forums were more common...

Re: Laser tripwire circuit

If you do go with Poland's recommendation of a PIR sensor - I highly recommend using these PIR sensors! http://www.amazon.com/2013newestseller-HC-SR501-Pyroelectric-Infrared-Detector/dp/B00FDPO9B8 I've used about 20 of them on projects where I work, and they are super reliable with a 5V input. They ...

Re: Laser tripwire circuit

^^^^^ If only it worked that easily... Try using a single channel relay board like this: http://www.amazon.com/Docooler%C2%AE-Active-Channel-Module-Arduino/dp/B00G9TQH8U I've gotten them to reliably trigger off of a 3v logic line - there's a chance 1.8v will work - it's only got to activate the opto...

Re: Automated Hill mk3 pump

Use soft 1/4" or 3/8" copper tubing and wrap it as tightly around the pump body as you can - run a recirculating water loop through this coil! The copper will allow the best heat xfer rate of affordable materials, and if you are able to either get a dense coil, or for a less dense coil, as you wrap ...

Re: "In the world of spuds today"

The main difference you'll find with modern paintball guns and your creations - obviously beyond the electro-pneumatic assemblies that make them spit out 30 balls per second - is the tiny o-rings, and the excessive fussy-ness with the amount of pneumatic grease you apply to said o-rings haha. Other ...

Re: "In the world of spuds today"

It might be a chicken/egg scenario - but my gut feeling is that the Antenna Launching folk came up with the valve's spud gun usage first. It's certainly not a novel idea with origins in spudding, but it was a major game changer with regards to spudding's power output and effectiveness! For some reas...

Re: 30 Foot Potato Cannon

Yes please do that instead of excesseive reducers (and possible failures due to all the glue joints!!) Just make sure you drill through at a spot where a coupler is overlapped with the pipe underneath - i.e. a glue joint on a union/reducer. Try and put the hole halfway on the overlap if you can. Mak...

Re: 30 Foot Potato Cannon

Do yourself a favor and don't use a Schrader valve if your chamber is 6" x 10' !!! At the very least, try and use a 1/4" NPT quick discconnect in combination with a ball valve to seal the chamber. Then just directly connect your air compressor (which I hope to steezus krist you have - given your cha...
