DWV 4" sch40 rated at 220 psi?

I have my next project in planning and I need to pressurize 4" pipe. I can get 4" sch. 40 pipe. It says DWV 220 PSI, I assume it would be good for 120 psi but wanted to get your thoughts.
It wont be used for a spud gun directly but rather used as a large bore 1 foot stroke pneumatic cylinder.

What disk materials are you using? Are they as large as the sealing face of the union? Do you have a picture of the union? Why did you grind down the sealing face? The burst disks have been aluminum foil and two liter plastic. I ground off the inside sealing surface after reading that when it was g...

Firstly, how much are you tightening the union? You should be turning the knut as far as it can possibly go with an 18" or larger pipe wrench, while bracing it on something solid with another wrench. I've seen something similar to what you're talking about on McMaster, called a pressure amplifier. ...

Got it built and now am working out the bugs. I will finish it up and get pictures this weekend. I fired it a few times at just 2X last monday, quite impressed with the power it seems to have. Two questions, I am having trouble with burst disks, I have a 2" union and ground down the side with the ri...

Wow, This thread is going off topic but I will add my to cents. A go cart is much more complicated than you think. I am building one for my son over the summer. I already have a 25HP lawnmower engine most of the pipes for the frame and still plan to drop a grand or more in it. I have built several o...

Unless you plan on a 50 foot barrel, that chamber is overkill. WAAAY overkill. Something 1/3-1/2 of your barrel volume will give about the same result and be much easier to move/fill. I wouldn't go for higher mixes when you only have a 1/8 wall thickness. Even then you better test it remotely a bun...

Plans, what do you think? EDIT added pictures

I have layed low for a few weeks wile I have been working and planning my gun. I will build my first hybrid this weekend and I am wondering what you think of the specs. 6" OD 1/8th" wall steel pipe 30" long, welded 1/4" end caps. 2" union. For now I plan on using it more for testing for the purpose ...

If the motor has a capacitor on it then it will mess up when you lower the voltage. that is why it pulls so much current right off the bat. If you want a infitly variable speed just go with a brushed style fan, like drills, vacuum sweepers, most grinders ect. look at a celling fan they are 120 volt ...

@Jeeper: If you're looking at my original design for ideas, you'll have better luck with a barrel sealing piston valve like version 2 (which is basically what you described, just not what you were thinking). Even though the spring piston idea did work for me, It required tight tolerances because it...

A couple of thoughts about a piston hybrid. I finished a all copper pneumatic burst disk gun. It works great but I hate changing burst disks every time. This leaves me to build a simple but reliable piston style gun. I have looked at Fnord's design and am wondering if instead of a metal spring what ...

Thanks, to everybody. I think I will stay away from nitrous oxcide. I designed a hydrogen - oxygen water generator yesterday. Now I will need to complete my 24volt generator, it will be capable of over 200 amps output. The hydrogen/oxygen generator will be a 6 cell design and liquid cooled. I will p...

Thanks that gives me some to think about. I should state my resources are vast. My dad runs a manufarturing plant for air craft refuleers and has all kinds of steel I can get for cheap with machining capabilities. Including stainless 6" OD with 1/4" wall seamless  . I have been welding sinc...

A few questions

I am planning on building a hybrid late winter early spring once I sell one of my Jeeps. I have a few questions about basic design. Is there a advantage of Mapp gas over propane. I am trying to come up with a "cleaner" looking way for filling. Is it possible to fill the chamber to Xpsi of fuel then ...

Allrite after looking around I think I will go with a burst disk with a ball valve. this should be simple yet better flowing. I punched in the info in to GGDT I got a maximum speed of 417 FT per sec. I was hoping for better. any ideas?
