This ones an SGTC, just because it's my first.

I'd love to build an SSTC and then a DRSSTC, but I don't entirely understand how they work and which components to use.

Nah, I think that's just if you want to lengthen the spark.
It's because the electric field ionises the air around the output point and sparks and streams jump from there.

It's a pretty cool thing to read about, let alone build :D
