Re: "In the world of spuds today"

Not exactly an earth shattering bit of news, but after Joerg posted a review of a Chinese knock-off of the FX Airguns pump, I figured that the price was low enough to take a gamble on rather than just "one day" assembling the pile of pipe in the corner into a new pump. IMG_4464_800.jpg I'm waiting o...

Re: "Valveless" piloted o-ring detent concept

The idea is that once the o-ring is uncompressed, the projectiles needs no effort to go through - though of course the compression itself will take its toll on the component. More than that - it's not a binary thing, so at some point there's going to be a partially compressed O-ring that the projec...

Re: "Valveless" piloted o-ring detent concept

While potentially viable in theory, I suspect that in practice, this would be leak-prone (sealing that will be a bugger), likely to eat through o-rings (the wear as the projectile pushes through), difficult to load (unless the projectile is going to be held in exactly the right place as the pressure...

Like 'what's another name for a potato ?' Not sure that one would work. :P For the forum involved, we can expect members to be arriving with enough knowledge to answer basic background questions about the game (although there is a backup "Please e-mail here if you're completely stuck" option), but ...

Re: New users and mod approval

Some forum upgrades will fend off more automated attacks, but not much stops a human being paid to purposely try to get content stuck up here. I had that problem when I (not that long ago) took over the main administration of a wargaming forum. For a long time, the forum had several spammers an hou...

Re: NEW ZEALAND & LEGALITY OF SPUD CANNONS?

I'm not a New Zealander, but the legality of spudguns in whichever jurisdiction aside, I have absolutely no tolerance for people endangering others with reckless use of spudguns, airguns or other firearms. Scouring the New Zealand Arms Act 1983, these seem to be the relevant sections regarding firin...

Just in case you didn't see, although I don't really see his channel getting shut down Unfortunately, the only correct response to The Daily Mail, or any variant thereof*, turning up on the doorstep is to tell them to leave, then immediately contact your lawyer to start building a libel case. They'...

Re: Compressing air upto 300 psi with bicycle pump.

Well, my pump's cylinder is about 286cc. Is it enough to pump 1600cc at 20 bars withing 5 minutes? Unlikely. You'd have to average more than 20 strokes a minute*, and that's just not practical, particularly when trying to hit those pressures with a single stage quite that large. * @ Jack - No. Just...

Re: Compressing air upto 300 psi with bicycle pump.

Does the the tanks volume effect the force we need to apply to build pressure or its the pressure alone which decides it. Force = Pressure x Area. The volume doesn't enter into the amount of force required, but it will affect the amount of work required. Something like my own HEAL is a pretty big l...

Sounds interesting. I've sort of forgotten many electronics projects over the years. The last thing I really did was pretty basic - just a slightly spiced up 555/4017 chase LED circuit for a wargaming project. The only real challenge was getting it all to fit: http://i772.photobucket.com/albums/yy3/...

Re: Facebook page ?

The main problem with a FB group is that a lot of members live in jurisdictions where the legality of spudguns varies from "Questionable" to "Go to jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200", so it's entirely understandable that a lot of people don't want their real names and identities so easily an...

Re: Fueling a very high mix hybrid

Is it just me or have the forum lost alot of activity over the last years? If so, does anyone have a good explanation as to why? It's a shame.. At a guess, part of it is that people have become more paranoid in recent years. Once, a teenager (or pseudo-teenager) who bolted bits of plumbing together...

Re: "In the world of spuds today"

Well, bugger. One of the O-rings on HEAL's sleeve valve has been damaged and is now leaking like a sieve. It's very much not a user serviceable part, so I'm going to have to either buy or make a replacement for the entire valve. However, I'm now feeling incredibly smug about all the times that peopl...
