Re: Hybrid Wiring Outside to Inside of Chamber

Oh yeah, I think you are on the right track there. Try checking out you locals dealers, you never know if you have something good in your backyard. I would throw a safety factor on top of those working pressures though because of the repeated shock loads. To do that, you gotta learn a bit more abou...

Re: Hybrid Wiring Outside to Inside of Chamber

The reason why I provided that chart is because you can see how much of a drop in working pressure results from fastening pipes with threads. The chart you linked to on engineering toolbox is assuming the the pipe has no threads which greatly weaken the pipe. Yes seamless, stainless will be stronge...

Re: Hybrid Wiring Outside to Inside of Chamber

First off I encourage you to look at this working pressure guide: http://www.wheatland.com/images/standard-steel-pipe/Working_Pressure_Ratings_081114.pdf If you use HDGT http://www.thehalls-in-bfe.com/HGDT/ you'll see that the pressure of a 10x hybrid will actually exceed the working pressure of sc...

Re: Hybrid Wiring Outside to Inside of Chamber

Preliminary knowledge: what is your electronics experience? You should be able to use the chamber itself as ground, and then feed in + voltage through insulated connectors.Depending on your ignition voltage source, you can use the chamber as ground as well, but this depends on how the circuit is bu...

Re: Hybrid Wiring Outside to Inside of Chamber

A couple thoughts, I had attempted to use a voltage multiplier circuit for my hybrid and was not sucesfull although for your much smaller one may work entirely fine, something to consider. As for a Hogh voltage feedthrough people have used automotive sparkplugs and various epoxied arrangements. For...

Re: Is Sch10 Stainless Steel DDT safe?

Yeah, I want the gun to be as mobile as possible, cam couplings and all. I just realized I would always need to have an air compressor nearby, is it possible to hook up a bike pump to the meter and pump through there? I want all the recharging/loading systems on the gun. I'm not going to drag an ai...

Hybrid Wiring Outside to Inside of Chamber

As I have mentioned in previous posts, I am planning a handheld burst disk Hybrid, which I will build in roughly 4 weeks. I have already finished designing the Construction Material (Sch 10 Threaded T304 Stainless Steel), Fuel (MAPP gas), Layout (Over/Under, 3" Chamber with detachable barrels 1.5" a...

Re: Is Sch10 Stainless Steel DDT safe?

Interestingly enough - that gun initially started out as 'something I want to hold' - it quickly turned into not that haha. Glad you enjoy the videos - Hopefully I can get back into making them in the future (aka shooting REAL spud guns, and not just boring cartridge fed AR's and AK's lol). Yeah, I...

Re: Is Sch10 Stainless Steel DDT safe?

Here is a link to my Sch. 10, 304 SS chamber and barrrel hybrid that I made a few years back: http://www.spudfiles.com/hybrid-cannon-database/topic23523.html I have had it fail to rupture the burst disc with a 10x mixture once - it was kind of interesting - a "ping" sound and nothing. Kind of scary...

Re: Is Sch 10 Stainless Steel safe enough in case of DDT?

Quick simulation at 10X Propane: 3inchhybrid10x.jpg As you can see, without the need for a chamber fan (pressurizing the system agitates the mixture in and of itself) you're already at ridiculous power levels, well beyond .338 Lapua Magnum. How are you thinking of holding it exactly? Did you plan o...

Re: Is Sch 10 Stainless Steel safe enough in case of DDT?

In the future if you want to run HGDT on a chromebook, you can do this: 1.) Enable developer mode 2.) Install Crouton and any number of linux distributions 3.) Install WINE 4.) Install HGDT. As to the question, I can't run HGDT now because I'm at work, but I'm sure somebody else will come along. Ge...

Is Sch10 Stainless Steel DDT safe?

I am going to be making a hybrid gun in about 4 weeks, and I have a relatively low budget. The construction material will be T304 stainless steel . I want to use Sch 10 for the construction as it is relatively the cheapest, but as I am working with a hybrid safety is #1 . The Sch 10 barrel diameters...

Re: Oxy/Propane mix in Sch 80 PVC; Is it safe?

Yes, you can use threaded metal pipe, there are a number of other joining methods for metal piping not involving welding as well although likely out of your price range. As another note, it might be beneficial to make the effort and find a welder. I've built a large cannon out of sch 80 pvc and ano...

Re: Oxy/Propane mix in Sch 80 PVC; Is it safe?

When you put the chamber under the barrel it's a more compact design but the elbow or tee connecting them becomes a weak point, with PVC it's better to have the chamber in line with the barrel. Hang on a second- I always thought that working with metal meant welding/machining, but could I build the...
