20mm Airsoft Howitzer
Hey, guys! I just *finished* my first airgun! :o Okay, yeah, it's not my 'first' actually, but it's the first one that's been finished to operational standards, instead of just going to 'proof of concept' and no further. :( After building a small hammer valve for a project I'm working on (airsoft sh...

Re: First Project - Semi-Auto
If this is your first project, Tetra, I'd really suggest going with a hammer valve system first. The performance/efficiency might be low, but it'll teach you a lot more about how compressed gasses function. Plus, the materials will be a lot cheaper than the QEV system. However, if you're set on usin...

Wow! I totally got to agree with Cammy3d. This may be one (if not 'the') best looking hand-built airsoft gun on the site! And the firepower in the video was impressive!

Re: Pneumatics: Without Expensive Tools
Totally cool. His work on the trigger mech was beautiful.
I knew the barrel was steel, but I noticed that the dovetailed locking pieces were brass. Seems like they'd shear off under the recoil.

Re: Pneumatics: Without Expensive Tools
Same here, Brian!! Man, that guy was a genius with metal. Where did you find that, Gipetto?
Question: his use of brass was fairly liberal. I was under the impression that it's not a very strong metal, but it looks like he was using it in some high-stress areas...

Re: Pneumatics: Without Expensive Tools
All very cool stuff, guys! However, I was aiming for a more "how-to" demonstration approach, so newbies can find a thread with lots of really specific information. ;) Bravootome, what do you mean by "a flex"? Technician1002, those are some scary-size airchambers! Brian... you ARE aware that you cons...

Pneumatics: Without Expensive Tools
Hey, guys. I got my propane hammer valve working properly today!! It's the first airgun I've managed to get to the point of real functionality and I'm pretty excited. A little of the success is due to hard-headed unwillingness to give up, but most of it goes to all the guys on here who posted their ...

Re: Soldering copper fittings
Interesting. Y'really do learn something new every day, don't you? ;) Hahaha. Yeah, it's more wasteful, but when you're playing an action sport like airsoft or paintball... ROF becomes VERY important, eh? I just assumed the blown-bolt would be the most easily built. I know JSR likes the pop-off type...

Re: 30 bar cigarette gun=)
This is really nice work!
Out of curiosity, why a cigarette? Seems like a pen would give you more barrel length, thus equaling a higher velocity for your projectile. Plus, it would have the perfect firing mechanism... the pen's clicker.

Re: Soldering copper fittings
I hadn't thought of that. I didn't know copper HAS a temper. Yeah, I'm starting to see that. The planning angle can really save some swearing and money, eh? Question on hammer valves, btw. Do you know of any links to threads using hammer valves in conjunction with a reciprocating bolt to create full...

Re: Fiberglass barrels and pressure vessels.
Odd. I would have thought reinforced fiberglass would make a really good barrel. That stuff is remarkably strong, especially as regards bursting. If your barrel cracked, bravootome, my guess is the fiberglass was laminated length-wise, rather than across, like matti suggested. Ichabod, if you don't ...

Re: regulator
As vng21092 has pointed out, you need a pressure regulator, not a flow regulator. Question: why would you want a pressure regulator on an air tank? Odds are you won't be getting air to high enough pressures to need a regulator... unless you're really dropping the pressure way down, like 10's of PSI....

Re: Soldering copper fittings
Okay, that's a weight of my mind, then. A small weight, but it's gone now. ;) (It's always that 'slim chance' that gets you, tho, isn't it :D) An interesting problem I've been having with this valve, by the way. The opening on the reducing joint was bigger than I wanted it to be, so I soldered a was...

Re: Soldering copper fittings
Makes sense. I guess the pressurized oxygen and propane WOULD be pretty flammable, now that I think about it... Question on that, btw. I've never heard of anyone's airsoft propane catching fire, but what would you say the odds are of that happening? Assuming the amount of propane released with each ...

Re: Soldering copper fittings
Ah, thanks! That's exactly what I needed to know. With airsoft, 145psi is PLENTY. Anything more and you get way too much power to be safe. ;) Purge the reservoir? I assume you mean purge it of air, so the air and propane don't mix? Thanks for the link. That's just the sort of thing Ive been trying t...
