Re: Miscegenation: the hybrid piston hybrid.

There’s absolutly no way you could run 10x in that set up, it would generate upwards of 1200 psi. You might get by with 2x but pvc is also rather brittle and at that size I wouldn’t even try to go hybrid. In my experience over 4” sch 80 pvc steel pipe is cheaper and can handle much higher pressure. ...

Another eBay find, and another company that looks to be a good option , Hycomp https://m.ebay.com/itm/AIR-COMPRESSOR-HIGH-PRESSURE-350-600-PSI-SYSTEM/201521319470?_trkparms=pageci%3A9f0d75ec-0f5b-11e8-8bfa-74dbd180c2ca%7Cparentrq%3A862efd621610a99bc706f177fffae6cd%7Ciid%3A1&_trksid=p2481888.c100675....

Re: Sourcing large volume high(er) pressure pumps?

I'm not sure of the cost but I think that pressure range is still commonly availbe from the big compressor companies like ingersoll in portable units like those often used with jackhammers. Would you consider used or are you looking for New to insure reliability? If you already have 100 psi air ther...

Re: Simulated recoil on heavy cannons

I'd agree on planning for failure for safety aspects. A couple other thoughts, the weight of your mount may also be a concern. On artillary the mount is large and/or braced in the ground. I suspect with the weight of your cannon the mount may move as much as the cannon. Also from what I've experienc...

Re: Thoughts on 10X large hybrids and DDT?

I haven't a large sample of tests to go off but my hybrid at 10x has spark gap roughly every chamber diameter and to my knowledge have not experienced ddt.

Re: large burst disk hybrid build(Update September 2017)

I was thinking just that, add an ejector if this continues to be a problem. I think pppr mixing may be a bit more likely in my case as my chanmber is rather long cause mares to most(around 12' with roughly a 6" ID)

Re: large burst disk hybrid build(Update September 2017)

Luckily I had planned for venting the chamber withought a known combustion for both this exact reason or if a leak occurred durring fueling. I have a electric ball valve now installed on the cannon and then a vent off my fueling manifold. So I can vent the chamber entirely remotely. I will have my f...

Re: large burst disk hybrid build(Update September 2017)

last weekend all conceivable major work was completed. Painting and some minor adjustments are the only thing planned at the moment, however a fail to fire incident did occur, which may provoke further work. Initially multiple shots were planed, but the fail to fire occurred on the second attempted ...

Re: large burst disk hybrid build(Update September 2017)

The implications of the high elevation range were indeed discussed. I did decide to allow for that much range mainly because many of the other areas where I may fire from are not flat and the increased range will allow for firing at a basically horizontal trajectory even if the trailer is facing dow...

Compressor HP to cfm relation

Thinking about my compressor, and have a question. I use large ac compressor to bring the 100 psi or so from a regular compressor up to 300 psi. What id eventually like to do is mount the ac compressor on a frame with a matching standard compressor pump and motor as a first stage. What I'm having di...

Re: My AC compressor

A rated tank would be best, definately hydro test the one you have made before using air. The flat ends aren't ideal as the metal will bend when pressure is applied and can cause the weld to crack without warning.

Re: My AC compressor

What's the rating of that tank? A flat ended pressure vessel is a bit atypical.

Re: My AC compressor

You may run in to issues with that sort of switch. I've used them before and they are very sensitive, more of a single setpoint. I could see it causing the compressor to turn on and off unnecessarily even from temperature fluctuation. But since you already have it worth a shot.

Re: My AC compressor

Since you are only going up to 140 psi for simplicity I'd just use a standard air compressor pressure switch. Contacts will be large enough to directly switch that motor and they have a built in unloader vent that opens when the switch does. You will still need the check valve of course.
