Jack I would personally just do it on the lathe, grab a hss blank and just shape your own internal groover (course I don't have a rotary table yet, things may change)

What are you hoping to make? Looking at some of your projects you definitely haven't reached the limit of what can be done with hand tools.

Did you get a decent quality tap and die set? Even low quality should handle brass but you never know.
