I didn't originally think about having a small inset inside the plug. That was simply to make it easier for me to turn it on the lathe.

I would think new ones perform better because they're a tighter fit, so it takes more pressure to fire it out, yet the fuzz/hair allows for less friction once it's moving. I could be wrong. I don't think adding a streamer in an effort to stabilize its flight will make much of a difference except to ...

I do too. In fact, I made a scale model of my current project for that same reason. I mean, if you're ever asked what you're doing with them, you're not obligated to say. Just give a generic answer, like you're helping around the house, if anything. I personally don't have a problem in the rare case...

Did you ensure you have the right mixture? ~4.2%. Beyond that, the more you add, the less powerful it'll be - until it won't ignite due to the lack of air (Too rich)

Also, just curious - how thick is that plate?
