Project something

Got the semi auto together enough to test fire, it seems to work, no magazine tube yet. The chamber and 1/2" valve are from my old 10mm ball bearing launcher so the air supply is probably over kill. The piston is from an old pneumatic cylinder that is cut down. The red block is aluminium. The princi...

Arduino automated spudgun fuel injector

Hi all, I've been away from the forum since forever, but I'm still firing my old cannons now and then. They all reside at the airfield where I skydive, since it's there I have the most space and the best audience. My carrot combustion cannon (showcased here ) has been my go-to since it's not tied to...

Re: Cooking up a little something...

Wow, missed that update, came back here from the link you posted elsewhere. 100% success indeed. 1067fps for a golf ball means you're basically being maxed out by the shock wave, i.e you're hitting the sound barrier. This makes me wonder what could be done with a streamlined projectile of the same c...

Full auto airsoft pistol

I sort of made a full auto pistol from pieces I screwed together, the chamber is the only piece fabricated. Holds 130 bbs, rate of fire is insane, can get 4 bursts if I'm quick on the trigger. Compressor connects to the small fitting on the chamber at 150psi. The valve is a 5/2 1/8"' port pilot oper...

Autonomous pistol .22

My new self-made short gun. It is a hybrid pistol, with a built-in air pump, that operates with 8x and five strokes only. It shoots common pellets, .22, and the firing barrel is 12 micro-ridged, 200mm long. My friend's chrono gave about 650 fps on 4.5 ml of butane. It weighs about 900 grams, and ret...

Re: Let's talk nerf blasters

I could always make my own, but it would be too powerful and might kill someone, so that idea is out.
I thought that was the idea?

Seriously, though, 150 bucks for a (high performance, admittedly) plastic toy gun? Tha fukk? I'd be far more inclined to try the nexus pro.

stonebow

Otherwise known as a pellet/bullet shooting crossbow. I built this thing to see: A) how accurate are they? B) how fast do they shoot? What I've learnt is that these things are super finnicky! I've shot paintballs with insane ball-on-ball accuracy at 25 yards, then tweaked the string/pouch and had pa...

Mechanically actuated quick dump valve

To get myself to build some stuff again I decided to slap a cannon together in my lunch break, with all designing and calculating done on the fly. I noticed that the projects where I spend a lot of time designing and preparing often don't actually end up being built at all.. Basically this is a quic...

Re: Mechanically actuated quick dump valve

Any chance of internals pics? Will take them when something inside needs fixing, shouldn't take long :P The chamber indeed is stainless steel, it's an old helium tank I rescued from the recycling bin at my employer. You can clearly see the "I grew up on PVC but I'm an adult with access to metals no...

Re: PVC Primer/Glue says DO NOT TEST WITH AIR

I looked at the GGDT program and it doesn't appear to have an option to calculate the maximum range in which it will be able to fire which is in my opinion the whole point of the software.. The point of the program is to have an idea of what your muzzle velocity will be. As for maximum range, that ...

Re: JSR's workshop chronicles

https://i.imgur.com/KzravGs.mp4 One down, three more to go! Interesting that the marking on the wheel led me to believe that one graduation is 0.1mm, and one full turn is 4mm. It turns out that it's actually half of that. https://i.imgur.com/KnoSbIW.jpg Odd. Are the markings meant to indicate the ef...

Most non-lathe-specific DRO's don't have the option to switch from radius to diameter though, and you'll get used to it soon enough
Sherline shows radius so I already am :)

In other news, carriage DRO done!

Now for the mill...

Re: JSR's workshop chronicles

How's accuracy? Have you done all the alignment checks? If you don't have a machinist's level to level the ways, it's worth doing a quick eccentricity / alignment check using "Rollie's Dad's Method" I still don't have a dial indicator... but I did play with some test cuts and everything seems to be...

Re: JSR's workshop chronicles

As long as the o-rings seal, the darn thing will work. The benefit of making parts yourself is you can just tweak them until they fit without caring much what the final dimensions are. If making drawings for someone else to make your parts, then of course you need to watch the tolerances and make s...

I'm back!

Hey guys, its been a very long time. I previously used the name "*###*" I lost access to my account and it seems I'm sol as far as recovery is concerned. I have built many more great toys over the years and I felt like getting back into the community to share my knowledge as well as to learn and bec...
