I'm not interested in making parts, but I do think the following question needs to be asked:
Has anyone given thought to the possible liability that could arise from making a part(s) that might ultimately be involved in a spudding accident?

Has anyone ever sued a PVC manufacturer when their launcher blew up?velocity3x wrote:Has anyone given thought to the possible liability that could arise from making a part(s) that might ultimately be involved in a spudding accident?
I think a simple disclaimer declaring the part to be a paperweight not to be used for any other function signed by the receiver would probably suffice...

Yep...the responsibility is yours. However, I wouldn't sell something that I wouldn't be happy using myself... Anyone who is familiar with my less SF oriented projects would know very well that I'll always overbuild.

That's why I said it's a breeze. One could tram everything by eye, roughly align the cutter, etc.dewey-1 wrote:.050 is a ridiculous tolerance for a machined part!ramses wrote:
Also, post TOLERANCES!!!!! If I need to hold +- 1 thou, it will take longer, but if I can have 50, it'll be a breeze. Also keep in mind the tolerances you actually need. You don't need +- .0003 diameter on a ~.2" hole 1.2" deep that will hold a roll pin that I will be pressing in! (but tell that Eaton corporation)
1/16 is .0625, close to a carpenter's tight tolerance.
I hope you meant .005.

I couldn't say, but having grown up in the "Frivolous Litigation Capital of The World" (Southern California), liability is always of great concern to me. So very many lawsuits overtly exhibit a profound lack of common sense and justice, yet they happen on a daily basis. Perhaps I'm overly cautious, but I just thought I'd share the thought. Carry on.........jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:Has anyone ever sued a PVC manufacturer when their launcher blew up?

You mean California "We-banned-50-BMG-rifles-but-still-allow-the-510-DTC" California?velocity3x wrote:Perhaps I'm overly cautious, but I just thought I'd share the thought. Carry on.........
I think it's all about context, what might come across as slightly paranoid to those living where the disease of litigation culture hasn't spread is a completely justified concern considering your place of residence, I don't blame you!

No, no no. They banned the .50 BMGs because they were assault rifles. I mean, they have synthetic black adjustable stocks, removable magazines, and threaded muzzles/flash suppressors.
Liability is a concern, but a simple waiver should help. I think the waiver at the beginning of this website might help save someone's arse in court, but you never know.

Hi is there anyone who can and would make this 10mm mold for a good price?
Made in solidworks: http://www.easy-share.com/1917209817/10mm bulletmold.SLDASM

I can't open it (but I probably don't have time to make it anyway). Was this made with Solidworks pre-2003 or post 2010?
Could you upload an orthographic drawing in a more open format?
Thanks!

If you are in the Portland Oregon area next month, one of the home machinists clubs is having a show. It is geared to model steam engines, machining, home built CNC, and metal casting. There will be a demo of casting aluminum if you want to see it done first hand. (i've done some myself) There will be lots of experienced home machinists to meet so you can ask questions from those who do this.
I hope this does not sound too spammy promoting an event I have no association to. See you there if you can make it.

These guys turn out some fantastic stuff.
