I just realised I'll almost be pushing 10,000J with this shot depending on the weight

I wonder how long the projectile will stay supersonic for, according to HGDT I should be in the range of 400ms muzzle velocity (including the sabot). The sabot is looking really nice by the way, I'm pretty confident that it will launch successfully.

Unlike the older ones that would stretch a 640x480 imag out to something like 720 pixels wide, this newer one actually records at the correct resolution, without upscaling from a lower-res sensor.

It's referred to as the #11 version (I believe the most used older varient was the #3 camera). They can be had for about forty bucks, which is a bit costlier than the originals.

I plan to shave a bit some weight, maybe by thinning the plates in some points. I'll do that at the end.

I'm please to announce that the sabot is completed. Simpler than my original ideas, fortunately dewey1 and JSR were there to KISS me...
(can I say that in English? I'm not sure it translate )

The sabot can be set in 2 configurations:
1) A fixed setup, kinda like a cup sabot.
2) A separating setup, kinda like a spindle sabot.

I'm pretty sure the spindle is good enough, but for the sake of experimenting, maybe MrCrowley will be able to compare the launch for both type with slo-mo video, and see if going to the trouble of making a sabot with separating petals worth it.


Here's the fixed setup, total weight 54 grams.
The UHMW ring is there to prevent the petals to break apart at the washer level, and to lower the stress on the aluminum bolt.




Here's the separating setup, total weight 49.6 grams.
No need for the large washer and the ring, just a thicker rubber washer that keep the petals together when the projectile is in place.





Now where should I mail that thingy? Any takers?

I will try this week-end to make a few mock-up ammo in a wood dowel, just to be able to see if the sabot survive the impact and launch properly without using the real MiniBoy: it can be lost only once!
And I can always make a sturdier sabot.
