It would be good to have a lathe, for bolts, pistons etc. but a mill is also an asset. Listen to me, the four horsemen must really be approaching! I blame the miniboy

If you have an entrepreneurship soul, you can make easy money yes.
All my equipment, lathe, mill, band saw, drill press, etc etc... was refund in a year selling little machined and resin cast pieces to miniature modelers.

But if it's for work, it become not fun very quickly.
Now I understood that, I try to only have fun with the tools

Back on topic, one for you machinists out there - you know who you are - how difficult would it be for a n00b to make something like this?



The original design was for a pneumatic but I would add an electrode to the schrader et voila, hybrid cartridge. It's basically a tube with a threaded cap, is it something a beginner can achieve in a couple of hours?

The short thread can be a bit of a pain, you'll need bottom tap to achieve it. On an economic point of view, I would try to do a thread on the outside for that reason, longer, so I can use a single kind of tap, cheaper.

A couple of hours? That's after you draw the plan and set up the machine and prepare with a lot of sweat the little pieces of metal saw from a long metal bar, right? Could be... you're quite fast usually

You mean reverse the male and female positions, so the endcap is a sort of rimmed collar? I need to do some reading up on threading, I have no idea what you're talking about

Mixing larger quantities of epoxy generates quite a bit of heat, so it's more like "It burns! IT BURNS!"

I'll try to explain but I'm no expert:

To form a thread with a tap up to the very bottom, you need three kind of taps: Start with a taper, then plug, then bottom.
Now, the cheaper taps are the taper ones.
If you do it the the other way around, you have a thread longer on your drawing, and I feel you could use a cheap tap to form the correct threads on the beginning of the hole.

An alternative could be to make the plug in two parts, so you can thread the hole inside with a simple taper tap, being in two parts the thread is right up to the end and you can make something more compact

It seem more complicated to do but not really. For the two parts plug, you just have to tap the inside of a tube and keep the length where the thread are formed correctly, and the plug is simply the end of the chamber part that you'll slice off after you made the thread all the way with a die

Note that the simple way is to buy the three kind of taps of course...
