Well, faced with a week off from school and almost 200 bucks worth of "good grade" money i decided to start work on my .40 cal sniper. well, the picture below is how the breech/barrel assemebely turned out. its 100% aluminum (minus the brass pipe fittings and Breech lock screw) and i had a little bit of fun giving it a brushed look. pictures dont do the brushed aluminum look justice...................

well anyway, i was just wonering what you all thought of it, or any ways i could improve on it. i just ordered my QEV, and it should come about wensday....

What do you got wrapped up in it? Aluminum aint cheep! Nice job, plenty of room to load it looks like. How long did it take you to get it done?

took me about 2-3 hours to make all of it. it really isnt that expensive...

but then, it did cost me 40 bucks.

My ball valve copper gun was 50$ canadian (lolol It's worth more than the US $ now)

But at least you arent spending HUGE amounts of moey for a good looking gun....

wondering how did you get that brushed look it adds a nice clean touch.

its the wire brush attatchement on my dads angle grinder... it does look good though.... if only working with aluminum was like working with wood i would have a pretty sick looking gun.

this same method works for stainless steel..... (Triple S???)

i actually ditched the screw acting as a set screw to told the barrel in and moved on to an actual bolt action. it looks no different minus the fact the screw is now black......

Nice gun....I told someone to use aluminum, on this forum ,but they said its to soft and the thread would strip out even at low pressure...Im not sure about this...The aluminum pipe I use is T-6 aluminum alloy, sch 80.......with a tencel strenght of like 10,000+ PSI...Its air craft temptered aluminum.....I would tell you where I buy the stuff but the powers that be clame I sponcer them or that I work for the company, which I do not....Nice gun, keep up the good work..we need more guys like you....Guys that think outside of the PVC......

This is a very nice breech. If the breech looks like this, I can't wait to see your finish product.

Just one question, though:
How do you open the breech? It appears as if it has a handle, but looks like the handle is tapped into the wall of the support. I may be looking at it wrong, and would assume it appears to be tapped into the breech and that is how it is locked, but I was just curious.

I was using that as a set screw, because i couldnt get a screw to stick into the barrel itself correctly to make it right..

i did get it though, it now works in that nice "click, Click, CLANK (load) CLANK click" motion.

as of now im working on a rail to epoxy on the top of this so i cann attatch the scope i am planning on using. now for the rest of the gun............

and aluminum does strip very easily. when molded into tubes and angles, it is extremely strong, but once its a single flat sheet it bends like... well... aluminum foil. i can see aluminum threads getting worn out quite fast. thats why i have reinforced everything with epoxy.

also, i was having fun shooting thumbtacks out of this with a modified fire extinguisher, and teee hee it works really well. at 250 PSI i throw thumbtacks far enough into a 2X4 so that a small chunk of the plastic is below the front face of the wood. now imagine 250 psi with a valve that has some good flow...........

by the way, does anone know of a good way to make something stick in the end of the barrel ever so sligtly that it doesnt fling out but doesnt stay there extremely tightly?
