I don't have a bolt-action, but was theorizing on it: instead of your average toploading, keep-it-upright mag, what about one that was spring loaded? Would be pretty cool looking compared to that old crappy vertical thing, and would definitely add to that o-so-geeky badass feeling of slapping a new mag of marbles in your self-build contraption of death, but do you think it would be feasible?

Merged:

along the note of bolt-actions, i thought it would help to have a slightly smaller ID o-ring in the breech preventing the projectiles from falling out, and maybe even build up a little extra pressure for when you actually do fire it. Would this work at all? Or would it just sap all the force out of your shots...

ive thought of it and came to the conclusion that you would need to be incredibly good with basic hand tools, or have an access to a machine shop.

ive taken apart my bolt action .22lr and have thought about how easy it would be to replicate, but again with the proper tools.

my thought was to have an actual "cartage" and have the bolt with an ejector to pull it out.

use you imagination, its possible to make, you just have to use your head.

edit- not a bolt action, but ive never seen this before and i thought it was worth sharing. http://www.boltsniper.com/BS-5/BS5.htm

Its a lot simpler than that, I just drew up some plans:

I now realise how easy it is. Make a the breech with a tee-fitting, and have a springloaded mag plug into it. I'm sure its been done many times, but might as well show:

Like a normal bolt-action rifle, except it doesnt have to eject shells!

My design was like this but a revolving breach. The holes lined up with the mag and projectile inserted into barrel. Kudos to you if you make a model.

anyway what's the thing between the "to valve" and o-ring? looks like a coupler?
