I recently took apart a old pellet gun and now I have a 14'' RIFLED bb barrel and I don't have any ideas of what to do with it anybody want to throw ideas around?

You don't got to go combustion to go supersonic.


All you need is a huge tank, huge pressure, and a great burst disc.

But you do need to go hybrid. with a 14'' barrel it's unlikely.

still, a high power small pellet hybrid would be sweet.

I agree it would but I would like to keep it a pneumatic.

With only 14" of barrel, why not go with a CO2 based regulated 250-300 psi or so, small QEV and chamber, maybe copper. The QEV should be able to stand to pain...

I don't know about a qev I like to make my own valves and the co2 I don't think I will be able to get a regulator or hose because of parrents that are strict with buying stuff on the internet. I am leaning towards sniper rifle.

Sounds like you know what to do then.

I think it would be cool to build two identical guns, one with the rifled barrel and another with a smoothbore barrel and compare the accuracy between the two. I've always wondered if rifling really affects the accuracy of spherical projectiles.

I've been staring (occasionally) at the remains of the break barrel air rifle that donated its stock to my copper gun project, and thinking about doing something with it.

Sticky, have you considered a toolies piston?

Only slightly more involved than a "standard" barrel sealer, but there are some possibilities for improved flow. (IMO, not tested.)

You might even be able to figure a breech loading setup if your pellet gun was a break barrel. 8)

Well, most cheap airgun barrels are simply hydraulic/pneumatic tubing that has been rifled, so you could probably measure the O.D. of the tubing and, whaddaya know? It's probably got a corresponding size of compression nut that will fit it.

As for using it, though, I'm afraid you may not get a lot of satisfaction out of it. If you're expecting velocities higher or on par with store-bought pellet guns (of sufficient quality), then you are most probably going to be disappointed. Most pneumatic and PCP pellet guns operate at very high pressures using extremely efficient valves for their size. To beat that with stuff from the hardware store is going to be a little difficult.

If you want to have a hand-on building experience, why not build a pellet gun out of parts? I built mine (albeit it isn't as customized as some others I've seen) out of a pistol and various parts ordered from Crosman and third-party sites, and this was the result:



But, it's up to you.
