Does anyone know if Harvel Clear™ Rigid PVC Pipe would work in a pneumatic gun. I mean pressure wise of course. I found a site that sells it, and I want my gun to have the clear pipe.

I really like to stick with pneumatic because it feels safer, because my friends made combustion a few times and he says its annoying because sometimes the cap blows off and it costs a little money for the hairspray after a while.

I have no idea about pressures but I think 100psi or so since it's not pressure rated but usable for pneumatic systems

The SCH40 3" clear pipe is pressure rated to 130 PSIG.

I remember looking at that website a long time ago. I would go for it, sounds like a good idea and would look sweet. Do you want just the chamber to be clear? I think that would look even better with the barrel clear also.

I strongly advise you to make a combustion if you are going to use clear pvc. Have a look at the advanced combustion's around here most notably starmans triple thunder cannons and radiations clara anne (sp) you will be impressed.

For good performance you should use propane and it's a lot cheaper than hairspray. Plus you will get it to fire every time.

So to sum it up it will be good for at least 150 or so psi and it you should make it a combustion.

That seems to be very nice source of pipe. They sell by the foot, larger diameters and wall thicknesses too, for a reasoable price!

He should get a proper cap. And the 1 dollar for a hairspray can is not like a lot is it? The largest benefit of combustion is that it is easier to take into the field. You can shoot a lot of shots from one can of hairspray.
Though in my country combustions are not legal, while pneumatics are (more or less).

Its cellular core pvc. Its death.

OK, thats good to know. I just recently examined my old gun that had a 3" chamber to 2" barrel. It is also made of the same material. I thought I had that piece cut from a long section of PVC, but it was some time ago. It has held up fine to just aerosol shots. Would this new gun be ok using just aerosol sprays if I avoided using propane? Im looking for a use so I don't have to scrap the whole gun, since its already glued up.

More or less. I wouldnt place my bets on it, but on the other hand the pressures will not be very lethal. Just dont shoulderfire (in case it explodes.) If you hipfire it and it goes boom you will probably be left with a burn or a scratch at most. Also dont load ammo that has a high chance to jam.
So you can use it, but it will never be a safe cannon.

Well, now I'm kinda wondering what its like when it ruptures. I'm a hobbyist pyrotechnition so I am on the safe side of things when ever possible. I think I will just chop off the barrel, take the chamber add 100g or so of black powder, cap it and over pressure it just to see how it comes out. I'll post some pics when I get around to it so everyone can see what happens to cellulose core pipe when it ruptures.
