Not sure if worth the effort, but definitely useful tool.

When you machine both threads and they match :D
Hopefully tomorrow I will get the valve internals done and fill it up.

So a while ago I felt like making a 4 jaw chuck... For no reason other than I thought it would be cool :)

Started with 3-1/8" aluminum round, and after lots of turning and milling I've completed the body of the chuck. The jaws will be machined from 303, but I've gotten started on an aluminum version for practice.

The pictures are a render of the solidworks model, the chuck on the arbor I made for it, installed in the South Bend, and the chuck in the Bridgeport after machining the slots.

Also I'd like to thank JSR, Le Maudit, and any other machinists from whom I've taken inspiration. I'm now teaching a lab in the college of engineering here, and I do believe that is all thanks to those who I have learned from on the forum over the years. Cheers to y'all :occasion5:

Reading that genuinely made my morning, of course all the credit is yours for staying the course and getting to where you are but if I had some small part in pointing you in the "right" direction then I am truly honored. Great job!

JSR, you certainly had a large part in it, among others on this forum, and I'm eternally grateful for the inspiration that the members of spudfiles have given me over the years. I have no idea what I would be doing right now if I never stumbled upon this place. Spudfiles has such a wealth of knowledge, experience, and creativity to be passed on to its members... We may be a small community but that is no reflection of the quality of our members! I've said it many times before, but I could never thank the members of this forum enough for the inspiration they have given me :)

Great info from the link thank you. I discussed with our machinist and we have decided to make the twisted square rod rifling tool with a 4 land broach cutter to rifle our barrel. The shop is quite busy at the moment so might be a couple weeks before we can justify the time. I will keep you all informed.

Pretty neat, on aluminium should produce even better results (or at least faster)

Found a big block of nylon on my local airsoft field, the owner let me keep it. After some fooling around on my CNC router I got a new stock :D

Gah. Been offered a new lathe. Cazeneuve model LO, 3m long, turns 1.5m between points, in very good condition. But I don't think my power supply will handle it.
