Im trying to buy some 4" pipe off mcmaster, but i want to know how much they charge for shipping first. I have no idea of how much it could be since it has to be shipped via "motor freight." They want me to give them my card before they tell me my shipping price- definitely not going to do that. Who the hell has their website set up like that? Can anyone give me an idea of how to find out their shipping costs? Or maybe there is another site i can order pipe from? I went to my nearest plumbing supply outlet today, and the only sell 20' lengths of 4". Its decently priced (i think? or is it?) at $56, but i dont know what to do with an extra 10' of pipe. i cant really afford to spend any more money on another cannon...

yea... your not gonna find out until after they ship the order, as in you already paid for it. i know this for a fact me and my friend bought some stuff off there using one of those pre-paid cards you get from CVS. well long story short the subtotal was like $23.71 or something and the cared only had $25 on it. so they ship it, it gets to my house, and then a day later some guy calls my house asking for the owner of "poop shoot inc" (the fake company name we put in) becuase the card was maxed out.

Umm, singularity, you don't have to enter a company name. I didn't enter one and it worked and shipped just fine. (Unless the angry manager took a dump in my qev or something)

at my local ace hardware they sell pipe really really cheap...cheaper than i have ever seen it before.. (all nsf-pw and pressure ratings on the side)
10 feet lengths
1.5"-$3.50
2"-5.00
3"-7.50
4"-10.00
6"-17.50
then the fittings are a killer...and i dont know why as the yuse more plastic on the pipe and its really cheap..
if you have an ace hardware place near you i would check there

I have bought from mcmaster before and they charged me only $6 shipping on 3 different occasions, all different subtotals. also i never entered a company name. but im not sure about freight shipping mine were all shipped via UPS. i dont believe that is the same as freight though.

Freight is for really big/heavy stuff. That is why it costs more.

Yeah ace isnt an option.. I hate the owner of the one close to my house. Hes racist... and follows everyone thats not white or older than 21 or so to make sure they dont "steal." Hes a major deuchebag. Last time i went in their to buy fittings (im 17), he walks up to me and asks me if im gonna buy something and if i have money. When i told him to leave me alone he said "ill be watching for shoplifters," and left. Sorry bout the rant. I hate ace.
Yeah mine will need to be freight shipped, if i ordered it online. Im going to call and see if other plumbing stores have 4". If not i may have to breaked down and shell out 56 clams for a 20 foot length.

Lets see here... a 20' coaxial pneumatic using 4" with a 1.5" barrel would be, uh...schismatized wrote:I went to my nearest plumbing supply outlet today, and the only sell 20' lengths of 4". 3016ci (20' x 4" pipe) minus 424ci (20' x 1.5") = 2592ci, giving you a 6:1 C:B ratio.... With a nicely made diaphragm valve (or, God forbid, a piston...), at 120+ psi, that thing would be a BEAST... (by the way, my 2 AM math didn't calculate in the wall thickness of the barrel so the actual chamber volume would be slightly lower... but whatever man, this is spudguns, not rocket science)
OK, but back on topic, as frankrede suggested, try irrigation/sprinkler/plumbing supply stores. If all else fails, call contractors and/or plumbers and ask them who they buy their pipe from.
Peace,
Pete Zaria.
