We bent them into a sort of "f" shape so we could hold them better to get more draw-back on the elastic band. I did get one stuck through my finger, but that didn't stop us.
I also took a mini-combustion into school to plink around with. Was fun shooting pencil rubbers across the class-room, but I can't exactly say that was very covert. Especially when it blew up on the field. The whole field heard it.

It was an old pill bottle with a Bic pen as a barrel with the ol' piezo for ignition. Easily concealable in my old blazer pocket. If I did get caught with it, I'm sure I would have got expelled.
That reminds me of an anecdote my father told me about these pea guns they used to have - basically primitive trigger powered spring airsoft guns with a little gravity fed hopper.
I won't bother you with too much detail, it's not that funny but suffice to say most students had one of these guns.
The story involves this poor sighted teacher that wanders in after a pea fight, wanders across to the blackboard, then stops and picks up a pea, then announces: "I have just found a dried pea on the floor. Who does it belong to?".
Of course, there were about 500 other (unseen) peas across the floor... well, it was more amusing when I heard it, but you get the idea.

I don't know much about it, I've only ever heard of them from my father, and never actually seen one, but there is this site that might fill you in a little.
I believe it's translated by your typical auto translator, so expect some odd grammar:
http://homepage1.nifty.com/nekocame/60s ... nglish.htm
If you want more info, try searching for "Sekiden Gun" on google.
