Wow, people actually replied to this.

Ah, i used to back in the day. I don't actually any more, i'm long past nerfing and essentially have just upgraded my interest to pneumatic spudgun building.

Really? I was never that impressed with it, it seemed pretty wimpy, and it's probably hidden in the bottom of a drawer somewhere.
Yeah, most nerf guns unmodified are wimpy and useless. Its interesting because sometimes the most wimpy, unattractive, or lame ones turn out to be the most powerful when modified because Nerf sometimes over-builds their guns and then puts bigger limiters on them to make them safe.

They're called homemade darts or "Stefans" (named after the guy who came up with them). Essentially a 2" long piece of 1/2" foam-backer rod (aka caulk saver) with a small fishing weight that is hot-glued into place on one end (which is easily capable of making people bleed if you shoot them from close range. Also easily leaves welts from long range). You can also push needles or nails through the tips to make the darts lethal, if you'd like. They can lodge themselves in wood or plaster surprisingly deep. When me and my friends modified the guns we used CPVC pipe for barrels for these darts (i think it was 1/2" cpvc? not sure though). 1/2 inch PVC pipe is perfect for regular darts, if any of you guys are still interested in shooting em. Here's a detailed guide me and my friend made on how to make em back in about 8th grade: http://rabidcroissanty2.tripod.com/nerf/id7.html

I have to say yeah nitefinders are pretty dope. On the aformentioned site in the "Mods" section is a step-by-step tutorial on how to mod them. I think the farthest i ever got any nerf gun to shoot horizontally must have been something like 120 feet from shoulder height. If people want to list their favorite guns that'd be pretty interesting. Anybody in here actually "nerf", as in, use the guns in paintball-style combat? It totally makes you look at guns in a different light when you realize that a high-powered long range breach-loading sniper rifle isn't nearly as badass when some one charges you while you're reloading with some short-range horribly inaccurate gun. One solution we found to this was to make holsters for secondary guns, or to take the innards out of small guns and hot glue them to the sides of larger guns for "back-up" shots in case of ambush, the latter became more of an ingenuity competition to create the most creative integration of multiple guns

Personal favorites:
SuperMaxx 5000
SuperMaxx 1500
Airtech 2000
X-stream (not made by nerf, extremely powerful spring powered gun which uses a lever to compress a powerful spring rather than a horizontally pulled handle)
I'm sure there are a few others, unfortunately their names are escaping me at the moment

One of my favorites has to be a minimized long shot. The clips REALLY give you an edge in indoor games. Actually I just played cops and Robbers 2 vs 2 nerf style in my friends basement. before you call me an 11(which I'm not) year old noob, you have to realize that these things do leave nice marks. and in the end its the cops wrestling the robbers to submition, which usually involves some pretty sore mornings:) Nerfing can be a blast as long as you have the right attitude.
Other guns
-Nitefinder(first edition)
-"plus" bow (captains slugs manufactureable Xbow replacement.
-the X bow of course
-my combustion 10 barreled cardboard box nerf gun. (I call it foam storm:)

I used to do the nerf stuff. I kinda went off of it when i realized that my stefans couldnt take to the pressures of my pneumatics...... they just Shred......

Anyway, My first attempt at a Semi-Auto was for a nerf gun. It used shells too.... and it worked.......... Too bad i lost all the shells........
