I think 200 psi is stretching the limits of PVC just a tad. It is still kinda safe, but dropping it would result in very bad things.

Also, the bottom T that you will be housing the piston in, you may also need to extend it a bit lower to take in to effect the traveling the piston needs to take as well as the space to put is a proper bumper in.

As a final note, could you please post a bigger picture so I can see it in a little more detail?

I don't know of any shoulder fired rocket laucher with a rear view mirror installed. That's why before the soldier fires it he looks behind him checks and yells "backblast area clear".
I was planning on the piece which shoots out the back being a piece of foam with dowels glued in and maybe a circle of plastic glued on to counter the weight of the metal arrow heads that fire in front. It would maybe be tied to a rope through a hole in the front with surgical tubing for a shock tied in the middle maybe and hose clamped to the rear barrel. but any thing equal weight and friction would work even a plastic bottle with the top cut off and a water balloon inside or a bag of powder stuff. that would teach someone to walk into the back blast of a rocket.
Besides like I wrote "that won't blow me out of a tree stand"
Don't think any one would be behind me there. Obviously if someone was to shoot blasts of 30 arrows at 300 fps the'd be in a rural area.
I like toys for men not little boys. although I design those too for my little nephews . or just study little kid toys to build bigger versions.

Okay man, i'm begging you. You make huge posts, which is good, without paragraphs, which is bad

Just spend 5 seconds at the end of all the furious typing, and hit the 'Enter' button several times to make a few paragraphs.

I guarantee more people will read your posts that way.

Oh and i'm not trying to be mean, just trying to get the best out of your posts. :)

MrCrowley, did you just find that flash animation? You have used it a lot recently. I understand the importance of easy reading and good grammar, but this is a bit repetitive. Could at least make it a link please?

On that note, is everything alright on your side? You seem to be a lot more angry than usual.

JSR made that if I recall correctly. It's brilliant :)

Anyway... For our cannons, recoil is pretty much neglible. If you had a cannon with a 4" x 20' barrel, and like over 2000ci of chamber space (yeah what a waste, just making a point 8) ) firing pork'n'bean cans that weighed 5+lbs, I'd consider using an air slide to dampen recoil a bit.

Ah I don't mean to be angry. That's why I added in the 'not trying to be mean' bit.

It's a fact, that more people will read THUNDER's posts if he puts in paragrpahs.

I know this is the third time i've said it to him, but he's already getting alot of ideas out and if he happens to have a good one, people may miss it because a huge post puts them off.

I really do mean good.

And with the animation, I made it, but yeah I can link it.

I haven't pissed anyone off for awhile, so not sure where you get the angry bit from. And I always try to add something so the person i'm talking to doesn't get offended.

If you're talkig about those two topics I locked the other day, I sorted it out with the guy and he's fine now.

Wow thanks for the replies fellas, I get the point, it would be helpful if I work on punctuation and paragraphs. Wherever are paragraphs are supposed to go?
It's cool to have a bunch of guys whose posts I've enjoyed reply. Man one time I read the internet is like a hive presence, like each bee makes less walls when there clustered together like that. spudfiles is cool.
Thanks for the advice Mega_Swordman. Yeah my drawing is not to scale. It kind of took 15 minutes to draw and like 5 hours to post. I will definately get a better sketch up soon.
btw those are great videos you helped get onto youtube.

Yeah, recoil is dependant totally on the projectile mass and velocity. Shooting spuds and golfballs (and certainly smaller) are totally managable without compensation.

For the paragraphs, just chuck them anywhere.

I just do it to break the post down evenly after a sentence or two :)

Agreed. And I'd incorporate recoil dampening in the above example only to save stress on the cannon itself (and its mount).

Which I may just do for kicks... :)

On this discussion in regards to masses and whatnot, I believe that he has a single projectile in mind, that being the arrows. If that is the case, he should only need to incorporate just that mass recoil. However, what would be really neat is if he developed a method to adjust the amount of pressure on the back end thus allowing of more types of ammunition.

I also think it would be better if the entire thing didn't pop out but instead just a small section, that way you wouldn't have the problem with hitting someone and it would be easier to adjust.

I still think that the easiest way to do this is to make the gun as heavy as possible.

unfortunately I don't know how heavy it has to be 10 kg, maybe 20 kg (?)
