I know that a disposable camera can be used for the powersource for a coilgun, but those need batteries and also take time to charge. So I was thinking could an electric piezo sparker be used instead? Maybe not one of the really small ones found in lighters but the bigger barbeque ones. I know these have quite a high voltage but the current may not be very high. Does anyone here have any experience with coilguns? Thanks.

For a coil gun you need a very big capacitor. With a capacitor form a camera you can get any power.May be the projectile will never clear the 'barrel'.

I don't even think it's the right kind of power. I believe you need DC power to make an electromagnet.
