Some people have no idea. Yeah, it sounds like your friend was a little eager to fire. My friend's dad was with us when we bought our stuff, the cashier was a kid at my school, he asked me the next day, "What the hell were you guys gonna do with 5 pounds of potatoes?" I just looked at him, laughed, and walked away.

I remember i brought about 30kg of potato's one weekend for me and my friend and the guy i bought them off gave me a smile and laughed then a weird look(sorta like a look when you take a moment to far and ruin it look) and sold them to me and the next time i went there he just said here take these out of date ones they are still good for spudding or having sex with what every you are doing with them. And i showed him my cannon and he showed me his a single piece of 50mm pipe with a end cap :P gota love those ghetto days.

I've gotten weird looks before when I bought a lot of PVC fittings. Golf balls are my ammo of choice, so I haven't bought potatoes in a few years. There have been plenty of times I was checking out at a store and got weird looks though, the one time my friends will never let me forget is when I bought an FHM and a box of latex gloves, as well as something else I think. They were totally unrelated, but afterwards it did seem like a very strange combination.

Both of the times that I've gone to my local sprinkler store to buy parts I've had somebody realize what I'm buying them for. It's pretty funny. And also, 400th post! :D :!: :D :!:

you know what i find very odd, every time i go to home depot the guys acually helps me find the right pieces, gives me suggestions, ect after i tell them im building a potato cannon, paintball gun, vortex gun, or whatever im building that day. but the one time my friend went with his mom i told him to tell the guy hes building a potato cannon. the first thing the guy says is "there worse than saw off shot guns, and very dangerous" and his mom freaked out. did i just get lucky all the times i told them i was building a potato cannon, do the people at home depot help anybody else or just me?

I just say what it is I need if I am having trouble, and if they ask I just say my dad sent me down to pick it up and I have no idea about what its for or whatever. They seem to buy it most if not all the time. If you are around 16-18, that is probably the best thing you can possibly say if you get "caught" by the people who work at a store if they think you are building a spud gun. Its not that I care they know I'm doing it, or that I'm afraid they are illegal, its just easier for me to get on my way then answer questions.
