gawd!
fire extinguisher flamethrower?
One: It's illegal, I've asked my neighbor/cop.
Two: CO2 is definetly not flammable, it used in extinguishers to push the fire's air/fuel out of the way starving the fire.
Three: Things in confined spaces have MORE of a tendancy to explode.
Four: I don't think you know what your doing.
Five: Ask your parents if you can use it, then ask if you can build a flamethrower, I doubt they will let you.
Six: Have an ambulance near by when you use the thing.
I suggest you do A LOT of research on the subject first, you need to learn about fuel, fittings, tapping, welding, check valves, redundancies, and safety gear.

im not into flamethrowers either. never really intended on building it either. but would someone mind telling me what the difference between using an extinguisher for a tank and one of those 0 shaped ones made out of pvc? what makes a fire extinguisher so much worse to use besides the fact that its illegal? everyone seems to think this will just explode if someone tried it but those homemade tanks are perfectly safe.
atlantis, the only way it would be legal, is if he repainted the canister and stripped it of all tags and stickers. Only then would it be legal, if he makes it and the tank still resembles that of a fire extinguisher it would be illigal.

A fire extinguisher would make a great tank/chamber. The dry powder type hold up tp 250psi and the co2 type can hold unregulated co2 and are rated up to 1500psi.
Just so everyone on this thread understands co2 is completely inert and is not only NOT flammable but it replaces oxygen and well extinguish fire.

yeah true i dnt build them coz i dnt know how and dont want to know how so i fear it might blow up on me then again i would prefur(sp?)to build my own then using a fire extinquisher(sp?) as theyre not designed for that purpose so i would build something that is

what factor? if its the fact nobodys done it before than i dont even see how that is valid as a factor. its just a TANK. i would put money on the fact that the metal fire extinguisher tank is stronger and can hold more pressure than pvc.
Yes that is true, BUT, all the people I know put check vavles in the hose so it cant go to the tank(s), has a better understanding of what they are doing. So go a head, it probley wont explode, but if it does.......

There is not really a risk factor in using fire extinguishers for tanks, however there is an incredibly high risk factor in making any type of "flamethrower" device.
I also question the legality of a "flamethrower" type device.
