Nerf Dart Gun Challenge (now open) disscussion thread
I have no problem with hybrids. If you have a good idea that would be safe, go for it Moonbogg.
As for hybrids/combustion launchers, most Nerfers would likely go more apeshit than they do for pneumatics. However, you can play your angle right as boltsniper did a combustion Nerf gun and they didn't crucify him for it: http://boltsniper.com/BS-2/BS2.htm

Is there any limit on how many barrels it can have? Or, if all the barrels can shoot at the same time?
Say you have 200 barrels, and they all fire under a second. Could you consider this 200 rps?
I'm only asking this to avoid someone saying, "You never said we couldn't have 200 barrels!"
Excuse this if someone already brought it up.... I haven't finished reading this thread yet.

I have no problem with that. I don't see how it is practical, but I've been surprised before.
Some designs have a great number of barrels. Once I considered a 16 barrel contraption, but I decided against that option due to the weight. Higher weights in that part required a heavier spring to retain a seal, and this spring would have made turning the "turret" more difficult. More obviously, the weight was just a pain.

alright has anyone built or started to build something, do we need to extend deadlines from march 1st
Most likely I won't have anything tangible until sometime in March. I intend to do the majority of the work the week of March 15th. I'm okay with extending the deadline if someone wants to do that as I'll just post when I'm done.

I'd like it extended as well. I've started to build my gun, but I don't have the time to work on it constantly so I don't expect it to be done by then.

sorry about the late reply, I should probably be more active here since I currently have no social life
alright how about april 12 this should let nearly all people take advantage of their varying spring break dates

I'll probably have something to show by then. Thanks for the idea of pushing it back.

same here since we've announced the contest all I've made was this but it's not even an original design, and it's so basic it's still a mod I'd never submit it, I'm still trying to think of a brilliantly easy to make loading system because I realize I only tend to actually build stuff when I can conceive a very do-able easy plan

I'm not sure if it's been discussed earlier but are we allowed to share progress on our entries before the deadline? There are some threads here that are tempting to post in because I have things to share, but I don't want to be disqualified.

well you are more then well come to mention details of your gun if, I would avoid revealing all the descriptive details at the same time because that would basically give it away and all that would be pictures and performance results.
even if you did reveal your gun I don't think we would disqualify you cause we currently need all the submissions we can get

I wouldn't care if you posted some details. I've already done the same, though, I removed them later and have since changed things enough to make my description somewhat inaccurate. (I've simplified things a bit. In fact, I might not end up using an air cylinder. I need to measure the dimensions of some parts on the way before deciding.)
And judging by how long it took me to respond to this, I might not even notice if you posted something PVC Arsenal. I've been too busy lately.
The larger point of the challenge is to generate some interesting guns. If you think your gun would be better by getting some feedback or you think others' might be better if you posted something interesting you've done, go ahead.
