I notice that a lot of these civilian massacres are stopped short by the assailants weapon jamming. Which leads me to wonder are civilian weapons designed intentionally to jam in high heat situations?

Interesting question.... I'm going to say no since I own civilian weapons... my guess is the jamming in alot of these situations is due to the assailant usually not knowing what they're doing with a weapon. Poor maintenance, things like that.

I think that the big manufactures are ordered to make them jam in a high heat situation, but if you go to a custom gunsmith and shell out cash, they probably wont jam much as they are hand crafted instead of cranked out in a factory. (Also it could be that the shooter is using low grade ammo)

No, no, and no. There's no conspiracy, it's really simple.

Those shooters don't tend to buy expensive guns, chances are they don't have a chrome moly bore, they use cheap filthy ammo, no maintenance, and they shoot far too quickly, which makes the rifle heat up.

If an experienced shooter were involved in such an event, using quality ammo in a quality rifle, you would find the rifle wouldn't jam. Another factor is stupid drum magazines, which aren't reliable.

Is that what happened in the recent shooting, the gun jammed? Are there likely to be local PD in a mall or mall security with guns? I got the impression that he fired off quite a few rounds yet not many people were killed/injured before he shot himself.

Biggest issues: Cheap ammo and drum magazines.

Shooters tend to be non-gun people and they think bigger is better when it comes to the mags and they don't realize that there IS a difference when it comes to ammo.

Also, even if/when a gun jams it is ONLY an end when you've got an idiot at the trigger. It's not like clearing a gun should take more than a couple seconds.

^^ What D_Hall said.

Mass shooters are mostly morons who's gun experience is pretty much limited to movies and video games.

Why can't these idiots shoot themselves properly BEFORE they start shooting others?

Cheap ammo = major factor, more so the lack of maintenance.

The news reported the gun jammed but think about this. How did he shoot himself if the gun jammed?

In Maryland they do. Mall's and other businesses that require security hire a security agency, (rent-a-cops). Harford Mall supplies the vehicles, but they remain on premises.

3 dead including himself and 1 wounded.

Gun control needs to come from different direction. When criminals get caught with full auto assault weapons the penalty has to be much higher. Amputation perhaps.

The death penalty hasn't stopped violent crime. You can't magic away crime with legislation.

Let's solve all our problems with gun control

The death penalty don't work because it's painless and or is over very fast once the action is carried out.

Amputation is a life long problem and is indeed painfull. Once people figure that out they will probably not do it.

all these shootings and crap are sickening, guns have nothing to do with it, its the man who uses the weapon

Well, the death penalty is certainly ineffective against those who are going to commit suicide - which seems to be the current trend.

Beyond that, I think the biggest problem with the DP and it's complete lack of effect as a deterrent has more to do with the venue than anything. Executions used to be public events where the condemned was exposed to "public opinion" on his way to the gallows. These days it's all very sterile and the condemned gets to keep his dignity.
