Well all reptiles can carry salmonella on their skin and in there feces. Other than aquatic turtles the chances of you devolping it are close to you getting it from a cooked egg.
1 dont be stupid and lick or kiss it.
wash your hands after handleing it.

A few good lizards are leopard geckos and crested geckos. they both come in a rainbow of colors and they require very little money to properly house and care for.

e-mail me for full descriptions of care and a letter from a reptile breeder to you mom stating the actual facts about lizards and other reptiles.

if he lets the temps drop it probably isnt much.
pretty cool dragon_keeper, reptiles are the best pets in the world: you dont have to walk them and they are quieter than kids!
I used to have a burmese python, she was 8 ft long. she was a very docile animal (unless you smelled like a rat, then LOOK OUT!). unfortunately she died, I hadnt caught it in time that she developed a respiratory infection.

TalonXxX: Its great that you are interested in reptiles as a pet, geckos are pretty cool little guys( just dont let him grow up to sell car insurance). your mom would certainly be better off if she took the time to enlighten herself on reptiles, im not picking on her, but the more FACTS she knows the better of an informed decision she would be able to make. I hope she lets you get one they are great fun to watch.

Yea here are some good new setup tips.
1.) Use a tank no smaller than a 75 gallon tank.
2.) DO NOT USE SAND of any kind, yes even those calci sands at the pet store. These are very bad they can raise the PH of the dragons stomach and after it is too high to digest anymore of the sand if starts to turn to a gum like gel in their intestional track. Bad Bad vary bad.
3.) Over all temps of about 100-105 at the basking site 90-95 on th warm side and 80-85 on the cool side. You NEED a UV source either a MVB murcury(SP) vapor bulb or a Flourescent tube light. Repti-sun 5.0 or 10.0 are the best although repti-glo 8.0 are about the same out-put they run down very quickly.
4.) Do not feed mealworms for the same reason as the sand.
5.) Lighting should follow your day/ night cycles in your area.
6.) Feed only foods that are on the www.beautifuldragons.com nutrition page.
7.) as for your eggs dont leave them in the tank. GO to your nearest tractor supply comany and but a still air incubator not one with a fan. and set it to 83 or 84 degrees, put a line on the top of the egg with a sharpie and transfer them to ziplock deli cups with holes filled with soaked (in water) perilite. READ Goto http://www.repticzone.com and join most people there will tell you to seperate them asap but dont worry about it. They will tell you anything. Most of them know what there talking about but let either blue-eyes, heartmountain, futureCROChunter, hockeyman,or J&B do the talking there the more involved people there.
PLease please use common sence if you are smart enough to build and use a spud gun then you should know they dont naturally live on sand and then dont eat iceberg lettuce or other cheap goods.
