Well my friend cam over and I sold the cannons to him, and guess what happened?
He took them home, shot one in his backyard and the cops came and arrested him for possession of illegal weapons. Or something like that.
wow.

What one did he shoot? I know over here in NZ if you're on your own property you can do what you want(unless highly illegal), drive without a licence etc as long as you don't disturb anyone and your sensible. The rules in the US are alot more leanent as you have the ATF letter so as long as he's on his own property shooting his own stuff with a combustion/pneumatic shouldn't he be fine?

Your city must have a specific rule on airsoft/pellet guns then. According to the government, spud cannons are totally legal.

I have never heard of anyone being arrested due to a spud cannon in the USA. I have heard of them being taken away, but arrested? I would look into it... could easily be a false arrest. Be sure you print out the ATF letter on the "Other" section of the site.

OK, you should try findlaw.com. I know that they have a list of state and many local ordinances which should be up to date. I searched my city there and found that spudgun firing is illegal within city limits here. You should see if your city is on there and look at the laws. Be sure to look through pretty much everything, the ordinances for my city were a mess. If you can't find anything that could possibly relate, let your friend know (if you can) and print out that letter from the ATF. Note that they are made illegal in moy town, because the law says that it is illegal to fire anything within city limits powered by combustion or powered by air, or something like that. Just see if you can find out.

Here's the <a href="http://www.findlaw.com/11stategov/">link</a>. Select your state, and somewhere on the next page there should be a link to statutes. Scroll down the next page to see if you can find your city.
