HELLL YEAHHHHH!!!!!!! Project time on school.
This time I may choose what I want to buildt My plan is to build a hydrogen torch for cutting sheet metal. To create hydrogen i will buildt a electrolysis cell with 16 plates of stainless steel, the plates are about 0,75 MM thick. I'm not sure about the power supply, my friend wants to use a PC power supply because of the which amps and the low voltage that are generated with it. My question was this is my first electrolysis cell does anyone have some tips

I used a PC PSU once.
It should work fine though my PSU overheated and kept shutting off every time after 10 seconds runnning.
A battery charger would be better.
Or maybe buy one of those 2000W PSU's

You had better make dang sure that the flame doesn't travel back down into your storage container, or you're in huge trouble.

I made one last semester for chem class. I just used a car battery charger at 12-15 amps or so. You could separate the molecules pretty easily, but you won't be getting a ton of hydrogen anytime soon. Maybe enough to inflate a balloon or two.
As for the torch... ever consider that hydrogen is one of the smallest particles out there?

Hydrogen is the smallest element, period. But he's right, it'll take you forever to get enough hydrogen & oxygen to cut something.

Yup, if he would use a setup like this:
[H2+O2 tank]-------hose----<torch head
The H2 will ignite and throug the hose the fire will enter the chamber WITHIN a ms. (DDT combustion speed)
After then you will hear a loud bang and see a bright light at the end of a long tunnel.

I had already thought of the blowback problem Some fine steelwool in a piece of 32 MM PVC piper and 2 INCH long between the torch and tank will overcome the problem.
If i can't get enough hydrogen from the generator I will only work further in the cell(on school they don't bother ).
Yesterday I made a small cell with four plates, I had alot of hydrogen. But there where some leeks so I couldn't fill a balloon.
I have the plates cutted and now I will begin with the housing.

Why not just get a oxy-mapp(or propane) cutting torch, won't be too expensive and would work real nice(and could be used for thicker metals.
