Applets on the internet

Hello spudfiles,

Some of you know (such as Carlman) that i know java programming language, fundamentally. I have gotten to the point where i can make GUI's and Applets. I have made a successful applet and i want to help out the community by putting one of my calculators on the internet, but i am not sure how to do that. I know i need to be able to host a website but i really dont know how to do that. If i had a mac i could......

But anyway, can some one give me insight on how to do this, so that i can give back to the spudfiles community?

There are many many free hosting sites around.
Google around for free hosting and you will find MANY MANY sites wich allow you to easily setup a website.

Hosting from godaddy is cheap, but beware you get what you pay for. I would also go with something free. Use a .co.nr redirrection to a free page.

Sometimes your ISP will host free websites for you but usually you can't use your own full domain name. It will be something like likimys.your-isp.com or your-isp.com/likimys

Does this program do some advanced physics calculations to solve range and such? Because we have enough fuel tools, C:B ratio calcs, etc...

Anywho, you're gonna find this funny, but a great way to distribute files is through a peer-to-peer network like Frostwire or torrent. Seriously.

Alternatively, you can set up your own FTP server, or find a free host site, but p2p is the best, imo.

Oh, and if anyone says something like "but torrent is illegal!!", please never use a computer again

For a free hosting service (with the punishment of having a sub address), I would suggest www.bravenet.com

They have the latest software and site layouts. I have been using them for about 5 years and never a complaint.

I give them 9/10 (would be 10/10 if it wasn't for the sub address lol)
But if you go with them, the name of your website would be: www.XXX.bravehost.com
XXX being whatever you want. They also offer .net, .org, .co, .nr, .tv and more.

Thanks for the input guys, i made a hybrid fueling calculator (yea i know we have enough) but i did this as a test so i can start making better programs once i can get this stuff out to you guys.

Now what i need to know is if this these free websites can take html code, which is what i use for the applet.

Oh, it's purely web-based? Well if it's just HTML, then I think it depends on the browser being used to view it rather than the service hosting the site. Don't quote me on that, though.

STHORNE I'm officially puting you on the list of people I love! I got a domain thats totally sick (www.boons.biz) from godaddy a few months ago, and it has been tottaly useless do to godaddy being shit, and now I can use it as the name for that free hosting. YAY!

EDIT: Damnit! It wants too charge me $8 to transfer the domain!

My computer teacher said that all web browsers should work, and by the way what does FTP mean? Will this allow me to run my applet on bravenet.com?

FTP Means File transfer protocol

its like HTTP but just a different protocol and port.

I was using bravenet and i tired to upload the html document as a file and it worked but the GUI didnt work.

So anyone got any other ideas?

I am takin java at the moment. I really hate it as we have to finish a deadline for a certain project EVERY week!! Its so much work, I never thought that my course would go so deep into programming.
