Today I found a 7.2 volt electric motor. I hooked it up to a battery to see if it worked. I was just holding on to it not expecting much and when I touched the wires to the battery the thing snaps out of my hand. This thing has some torque. Do you think I could use it for motor assist on a kick scooter?

Sounds like an RC hobby car motor. If it's geared down enough and you have a big enough battery it may be possible. Really depends on how big it is and its real torque output.

To do it right though, you'll need to be able to cut, weld and generally work with metal. Do you think you have the tools and chops to dig into such a project? Are you ready to butcher up your kick scooter to give this a try?

That is where it gets complicated. I don't have any metal working tools. Actually it was from a vacuum cleaner that I took apart. I also thought about direct drive but thought it would probably suck. I would just use the motor for long straight aways so I don't have to kick constantly.

Then you probably should leave it in the idea stage unless you can enlist some help from someone with the tools and capabilties.

I guess you can always make the mount for it out of wood.

Yeah not having any metal tools suck. Any other ideas for what to use it on.

An alternator to create an extreamly high amount of electricity, and make a giant spark.... :D

Interesting. I am thinking of maybe a centrifugal gun.
