I guess we're all knived to death, but here are a few new additions...

Left to right...

* Gerber fixed-blade that I've had forever and skeletonized.
* Kershaw D.W.O. fresh out the box. I can snap this one open one-handed with a bit of effort but it's mostly a casual carry.
* My favorite knife so far, a Buck 110 folder. Perfect as far as weight and balance goes, and I can open it one-handed silky smooth with no effort at all because of the heavy handle. Right now it's slightly dull from cutting trimmer line at work. It also came with a blunt point that is a work in progress at the moment as far as sharpening goes...
* Gerber Flick. I was slightly disappointed in this tool after seeing the version the Army guys get and the rust starting to appear on it. Oh well...

Not a big knife person myself, but my Leatherman Blast never leaves my side.
I also made a non-metallic knife out of aircraft plywood, fiberglass, wood glue, and cyano acrylate (as a hardener). I am sure the tip will dull rapidly, but honestly, all you need is one or two good stabs. I am working on finding a way of cutting fiberglass plate, that doesn't involve heavy shop equipment, so I can make one out of G10 that will hold up much better.

i made and forge my own knifes, it makes it the strongest, sharpest and just most beautiful knife that you can find. actually, i can made knifes by order if somebody is interested.

Yes, i know i am digging this thread up, so do NOT get at me for that shit, ive been around here long enough to know about that. just hate to see a good thread like this die. I have a couple knives, but this one is my favorite, i picked it up at a local swap meet yesterday, and i love it. i mainly love the multicolored wood grips. blade is VERY sharp(after i sharpened it more), and feels very nice in my hand. i carry this on me every day. I plan on buying a cold steel spartan in the future.

Just bought another one, this one is easier for EDC, and is highly concielable(the gerber mini paraframe, the other one is a little ozark folder). Im starting a collection of knives, next up is a nice spring assist knife.

Nice knives...I have a few knives/a multitool/swiss army I use..nothing spectacular.

Does anyone here make their own knives? I'm fine with all the metalworking, and just got a nice new bernzo blowtorch so I can harden them more accurately (and without getting a furnace going). I'm looking for some nice patterns that people like...Non folding, blade shank right through handle preferably..

read few post up, i make my own . those stroe bought knifes are not for my taste, usually they are tempered from spine to tip so they snap in teo peaces very easily. also usually the steel is not so good so it doesnt keep the edge so good. my handforged knife can slice an A3 half in just one incision

If you are looking for unique collectible knives, have you looked at any of the sapphire or ceramic knives? Some claim to be undetectable with a metal detector and possibly X Ray. I would not recommend trying this out, but for a unique knife, it maybe something to collect before they are banned.

Does anyone here make their own knives?

Yes.
Currently I only have one to show off and no camera to do it with.
It's a 12.5" hunting knife made from 440c stainless. I can cut down large saplings (2"+ thick) with no sign of blade damage. It needs a bit of sharpening however as I can't shave with it anymore.

If you ever want to do stainless knives you'll have to use more precise temperature control than a torch. I had to use a former employer's equipment to heat treat mine.

Most ceramic knife makers put metal powder in their blades with the intent of tripping metal detectors. I would.
What I personally want to try is a knife of ultra-low-melting point glass with a fiberglass mesh reinforcing it.
Or maybe some of that amorphous metal they use for physics demonstrations...

An easy way to detect a ceramic with metal before trying it someplace, is microwave it. If it gets hot, it is more than ceramic.

If using glass, take a look at how beveled glass is done. You may be able to get that crystal look instead of a sandblasted look.
