theres alot of talk going around about the Aprils Fools virus, also know as CONFICKER. it is supposedly really bad, the school district even said for our teachers to disconnect every computer at the school from the internet tonight and tomorrow, and tell us students to do the same.

does anyone know about this virus, what it does, how you get it?

No one knows what it's going to do, since apparently the action is supposed to happen tomorrow.

I'd guess something similar to skynet in RotM.

I haven't read about it yet, but a good firewall and av would be the easiest way to avoid being infected. Stay away from p2p for awhile, etc...

If the guy had any brains at all, he'd delay the action till the 2nd or 3rd when people start to think it's a hoax.

Theopia.com has a topic in regards to this. Also, its not a virus, its a malicious worm. In reality, by you disconnecting your computer, your not going to be doing that much. It sends out info to the worm (its probably already on your computer as it was launched at the begining of March). The worm then downloads stuff from different encoded websites that further harm your computer. In a way, it gets over 15 million computers to act in almost complete unison. Imagine the power of what that could be used for. Perhaps even something as sinister as bringing down government servers or by launching a massive brute force attack using all of the computers and creating a hypercomputer. (stronger than a supercomputer :wink: ) The best thing to do is make sure that your computer is up to date and your security software is as well. Also, if you can, try to boot up in safe mode tonight. If it won't work then chances are, you have the worm 8)

Or, you could just run linux...

Once again, open source comes out on top!

Anyways, no, despite my hours of stumbleing per day, I have not heard a thing about this april fools virus.

Do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come;
Live life in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering.

Or Mac OSX...

Especially if you have an outdated version, like me (10.3.9)!

lol "we" wont launch it. i cought that, it would be funny if I was the one that controlled the worm wouldn't it? although i dont get why the military is not subduing this because it has already infected frances navy last year.

also anyone live in Europe? be careful, some dipshit scientist poked herself when a needle that had ebola in it. for all that don't know this is the wost disease in the world, and it makes every pore in your body bleed, then makes you go consciously brain dead, but subconscious still works, and makes the male reproductive system enlarge to the size of a pear, then pop. i won't say what it does to the ladies, its just not humane

I do not think it is a joke. Microsoft even put a 250,000$ bounty on the creator. Past versions used 250 domains that it routed to, making it easy to stop. This version is supposed to use 50,000 domains.

I run linux =)
