I've been thinking about taking it apart anyway so I can remove the steel probe and mount the small display.
If it's a thermocouple - it's a two wire thermopile that generates voltage based on the temperature. Before I go on - it could be a thermistor as well -

If a wire junction is loose/broken in the "probe" setup - it could sporadically be sending 0V and then jumping to your correct reading - hence why it's jumping to -48*C (sometimes scaling isn't perfect on analog to digital things).

Just my guess!

Interesting, thanks. Wouldn't be surprised if that's the case, it's really bad quality. Had to use some blu-tack to hold the battery in place because it kept turning off the display when turned on. I opened it up but it looks like it might be difficult to remove the wires from the probe. Once I get around to buying another one, I'll see what I can do.

You can run, but you can't hide...

Amazing confidence in accuracy by having someone filming so close...

I still think a 50 cal is a poor choice of platform for a guided round.

Shoot a heavy dart out of a 40mm grenade launcher, it will be slower and therefore more accurate, using cheaper components that can be larger and under less acceleration stress, and will still be lethal to personnel at a range of several kilometers.

I think we had this discussion before :D

I think the point here is to give snipers a system that can allow them to engage effectively targets further away, but doesn't force them to adopt completely new guns. Makes perfect sense if it uses laser designators as lasing can be done by the spotter.

I agree that it would probably be easier and make more sense to develop something that looks more like xm25 and uses a larger calibre, but you get the point - it's probably more about bureaucracy than feasibility/practicality/ease of development.

Well, look at the bigger picture - think of all the money you would save by not having to train the sniper.

It's the same with precision munitions, they might be more expensive per unit as opposed to "dumb" munitions, but you need less of them, so you save a lot in terms of logistics.

ohh come on - they have their uses other than just inflicting casualties. It seems to me that the advantages they offer (reconnaissance) and their mere presence harms the morale of the opposing forces and hinders their movements.

Snipers also help to clear the way for troops, so that casualty so will be lessened. Basicaly a sniper may shoot a lock, alarm system, or even a guard that would have otherwise caused more causualytys on the sniper's side. Another think snipers do is that they can quickly eliminate a single target from a good distance, without a huge fight with the enemy.
Edit: it seems people love Jsr.....

It seems people only stepped in to stop the fight when the guy got involved. Huh.

Yeah, though it seems they did it to stop the fight not to beat him up.

It's so cool because he steps in to help a woman so it's justified and no one can blame him. I wonder what ze feminazis are going to say about this.... they are beating her because of patriarchy

Hmm..just failed my ( motorcycle) driving test.

Not because I couldn't ride..( say what?)..nooo.. he could tell I could ride very well in a few minutes..

The weird thing is I failed because I didn't overtake a car in front of me...while I had to take the exit off the freeway 600m further.
I simply stayed behind it..

According to him that could have been dangerous...because people expect me to move through traffic faster than a car ..??
So just moving along with traffic is dangerous...while overtaking a car and then rush back two lanes to reach the exit is the safe way to go..??

With this sort of logic I'm afraid I'll never make it...

I am looking for a different instructor though...found one cheaper..with a succesrate 20% higher..
Right now I'm just going to be cranky...feel like it :D

Got my motorcycle license a few months ago, and you really need to show the people driving behind you that you are very confident while driving. One of the things showing confidence is overtaking someone just before an exit

I really don't get their logic, they let you fail if you just cruise along with the traffic, they want to see you speeding and overtaking whenever possible..
