It's a Polaris Phoenix 200cc from 2005, in a good state of repair, which complete with helmet and some bits is going for $1800.

It's my birthday in a week or so, so I thought feck it, I'm buying myself a present :)

Pics or it didn't happen :D

Now I imagine you taking every dirt road you can find at the highest speed possible with a jaw-splitting grin on your face hehe

btw, how long does it take for you to paint it camo or flat black, and then deciding to make a full metal body? :P

Soon, left it at work.

I've spent most of the afternoon/evening riding around and haven't had this much fun with my pants on for quite a while! Still grinning like an idiot :D

Considering I had never ridden one before in my life I got the hang of it pretty quickly, brilliant :D

Hehe first things first, going to get it serviced to make sure the worky bits are up to scratch then we'll look into aesthetics.

This is the colour and look I would like to go for:

Those sort of "cycle fenders" and round lamps would be nice. I don't really want to touch the original bodywork though in case I need to resell to someone who isn't a fan of the Afrika Korps...

Does epoxyland have some nice roads for some recreative driving? :)
These machines are very easy to drive, you've got a much better "connection" with it than you have in a car..

Lot of work to do?

I like the Afrika Korps look, on quads it's very easy to take off the original body parts, and use the connection points for a metal body :)
how do you want to construct it? aluminium with blind rivets?

Epoxyland has notoriously terrible roads, most drives include at least one part which would be considered "offroad" in many western countries :D

Doesn't look like it, no rust, engine sounds like a dream, no leaky drippy bits... but I like to have it looked at by a professional.

Aluminium seems to be the natural choice, it will match the landrover :D need to find a reasonably priced sheet worker and take a *lot* of measurements...

Sounds good, I would like that over here :D

If you're lucky you may even be allowed to work on it yourself, aluminium is a very easy material for sheetwork.
It would be easy if you lived near me, I could supply you with a complete CNC-cut body kit made at work :D

I might give it a go myself, who knows... I'm looking for a "wartime" look so it doesn't have to be perfect.

Obviously I would then need one of these and a pair of goggles...

Not bad, I find 200s to be a little lacking in power, put same goes for small cars. I need high torque and fast acceleration at low speeds, for chasing sheep/cattle.

Just be careful, it's a sport quad, and they're top heavy, so take corners slowly until you get a feel for it. Also, if it's a manual/semi, then it might be quite torquey(?) on first, and might buck up with a sharp bump of the throttle. I can't wheelie a 250cc auto farm quad, but a 500cc semi is piss easy.

Farm quads are far heavier than a sports quad too.

Most importantly, enjoy the fuck out of it.

I cannot be trusted with a bigger engine, it's better if I limit myself this way ;)

It's automatic, and when it comes to corners after driving the landy with its "ballerina" wide wheels for several years now I approach them with caution instinctively.
Most importantly, enjoy the fork out of it.
That's what I've been doing :D

Well, I guess you didn't learn to ride a quad at 5, and it was a 750cc. But I'm certain you'll be wanting a 500 within a year.

Autos are the best for beginners, shifting a semi is a learning curve, not having a clutch is confusing. Even if you're used to a manual car. Landys are quite fun, especially going around hills, quickly...

I've been doing it since I was a kid, it's the best fun you can have with four wheels. (And I don't count paralysed gals either).

I doubt I'll want to upgrade, this is more of a "spare car that isn't a car" as opposed to an interest I want to take up seriously.

Even I found that a bit harsh  hehe

Anyways, here's the actual beast through lens of my shitty eBay knockoff android phone camera:
